Description
A rectangular piece of commercially woven needlepoint canvas with sampler design worked in wool slightly off centre and closer to the top. Background fabric natural ecru colour with rectangular sampler bordered in blue with light blue fret pattern edging. Alphabet of capital letters worked at the top in tan colour with cross stitch, with a cross stitched dog filling the space left at the end of the alphabet, then a row of blue cross stitching divides the numerals from 1 through 9 to 0 in light green, ending with the date "1913", then a blue line followed by "Catharine Robb", in pink, "her sampler, aged 7", in light green. Followed by a blue line with a small looped garland of pink flowers hanging from it, and a picture below carefully worked in needlepoint of a basket of flowers at the centre and a tree in pink flowerpot on either side.

Needlepoint sampler by Lucy Ann Andrew, aged 11 years, 1873. Mounted in a shadowbox with wooden frame and plexiglass front. The sampler is done in cross-stitch, multi-coloured (brown, dark grey, light grey and blue) on a loosely woven ecru linen. It depicts an alphabetical display of double upper and single lowercase needlepoint work including “Lucy Ann Andrew, her sampler, aged 11 years, August 6, 1873”, located in bottom one-third portion of sampler. There is a stitched hem around three-quarters of what would have been unfinished weft and warp.

Description
A needlepoint sampler, in many colours, done in cross-stitch on loosely woven ecru linen. The sampler has a double-stitched border with stitched bars between each row of letters (A-Z) beginning with capital letters, followed by numerals from 1 to 10, then lower case letters (a-z), then numerals from 1 to 6, then large capital letters (A-F), and ending with “Serena Matilda Potts 1822.” The piece was originally framed in a simple brown wood frame with a parallel line (wood grain?) texture. The paper backing has “Serena Potts’ work born 1812” handwritten and a “Royal Picture Gallery” (Calgary, Alberta) framer’s sticker.

Description
A needlepoint sampler, in many colours, done in cross-stitch on a loosely woven ecru linen. The sampler has a narrow double-stitched border with a floral band at the top followed by rows of letters of the alphabet separated by horizontal bars. Most of the letters are worked twice together through the alphabet repeating from A to D at the end, followed by another floral band as at the top, and then “Susanah Lehman November the 3 1796.” The sampler was originally framed in a simple brown wood frame with parallel line texture (wood grain?) and has a framer’s sticker on the back “The Royal Art Gallery” (Calgary, Alberta).
