Au verso written in pen “THIS 100% PURE BUFFALO CHIP WAS CREATED ON THE PLAINS OF ALBERTA - ABOUT 30 MILES S-E OF RED DEER - ON OR ABOUT THE 24TH DAY OF JULY 1881 - PRESERVED BY THE KINDNESS OF THE ABERHART GOVERNMENT”. Signed in pencil in script “Pat Lawrence P-L Ranches Red Deer”. On viewer’s left there is a white rectangular paper sticker with a red border, above this printed in pen “CERTIFIED GENUINE” and written on the paper, extending onto the wood, a signature in pen ESMeaueug?? underlined.

Description
A squat round jug with the lip distorted to form a pouring spout. The pitcher has a loop handle with a thumb tab attached opposite to the spout. The pitcher is white with a relief design painted over with gold and shades of green. A vine with half-green, half-gold leaves and gold berries over a background texture of scattered comma shapes decorates the top of the pitcher, beneath a narrow band of large dots at the rim. The base of the jug is painted green and has green leaves scattered about. A flower-like design is painted on the thumb tab of the handle. The jug is marked “Sporting Dogs”, “Old Leeds” and “Paragon, England PC”.
