Iridescent dark brown slip was applied, burnished, and then vessel was tooled to reveal terra cotta clay underneath, then fired. Minor chips in rim. Particles possibly volcanic ash adhered to vessel. Label on bottom in E.S. Morse's handwriting says "Pompeii before A.D. 79".
