- A glass tube, filled with a clear liquid, secured by metal straps in a slit cut in a wooden frame. A vertical metal strip on the left side of the wood indicates the weather with “Stormy”, “Change” and “Fair”. There is a screw eye on top for hanging.

- Description
- A field thermometer in a long narrow wooden box case with a brass ring at the top for hanging, and a small brass latch hook to secure the thermometer which slides into the box forming the lid when closed in place. The sliding piece can be reversed to display a glass tube mercury-filled thermometer attached to a brass plaque scaled from 10o to 120o (Fahrenheit). The inside of the case is marked “183” in pencil and there is a brass plaque on the box labelled “Charles Wilder Co. N.Y.” and “Williams, Brown and Earle Phila”.
