Description
a box that once contained cigarettes; it’s empty except for a folded piece of parchment. The box is covered with a light brown, heavily textured paper made to resemble leather. There is a paper hinge for opening and closing and a piece of white paper glued onto the top of the box with green lettering: in the left hand top corner “BY APPOINTMENT TO”, the royal insignia underneath, and below that “HIS MAJESTY THE KING”; printed diagonally across “20 STRAIGHT CUT 20” right hand “MANUFACTURED BY BENSON AND HEDGES (CANADA) LIMITED” and across the bottom “LONDON MONTREAL NEW YORK” and on the other side of the cover another piece of white paper glued on with exactly the same information “BY APPOINTMENT TO”, the royal insignia underneath “HIS MAJESTY THE KING”, diagonally across “20 STRAIGHT CUT 20” right hand “MANUFACTURED BY BENSON AND HEDGES (CANADA) LIMITED and across the bottom “LONDON MONTREAL NEW YORK”. Previous to opening, the box had a grey and white stamp sealing it shut (it is now in two pieces because it has been opened) ”20” in both top corners. An arc “CANADA” a larger (1.0Cm) “20” with the word “CIGARETTES “ printed inside a rectangular box; on the the bottom”CIGARETTES” underneath “SERIES 1915”.

A wooden box with a hinged lid that is overlaid with brass and inlaid with copper in a geometric design. Written in black ink on the bottom is “P.A. Moore” (Philip Augustus Moore). The copper inlay is shifting and oxidizing. The wood frame is shifting and warping, and the wood is stained.

Description
A hinged flat Player’s cigarette box made out of metal. It was commonly known as a Players Flat 50. The box is light blue with gold and red edging. The Players logo (a white life preserver with red lettering “PLAYERS NAVY CUT” with a seaman in the centre, and the sea and two sailing ships beyond, is in the left corner, “Players” in black and red script, and “NAVY CUT CIGARETTES “MEDIUM” “ in the right hand corner. There is a remnant of the paper excise tax stamp in black and white. On the top part of the gold-coloured bottom in black writing “OPENING RIBBON” and then an arrow pointing right followed by “PAT’D 1934-35” and on the bottom “MANUFACTURED BY IMPERIAL TOBACCO CO. OF CANADA, LIMITED, MONTREAL, CANADA SUCCESSOR TO JOHN PLAYER 7 SONS, ENGLAND. The inside top cover has the Players logo (a life preserver with black lettering “PLAYERS NAVY CUT” with a seaman in the centre, the sea and two sailing ships beyond, is in the left corner, “Players” in black script, and “NAVY CUT CIGARETTES “MEDIUM” ”.
