A shallow matchbox, with a hinged lid, that still contains the original matches "Wax Vestas". The matches are damp-proof and will burn for more than a few seconds. The lid depicts a gaff-rigged sloop sailing into the wind with another ship on the horizon. The scene also includes birds and a shoreline bluff. Both ends of the box bear the words “Jahncke’s Patent”. A grater-like striking surface panel is on the bottom of the box.
