- An old, surveyor’s transit which breaks down into four parts and stores into shaped depressions in blue velvet lined, kidney shaped, black leather over wood case. (a) telescope, long black and brass tube with eyepiece at one end and lens at the other. Brass leveling bubble mounted on underside near eyepiece. Sits on a clamp with various brass thumb screws attached to springs for adjusting horizontally and vertically, ending in a sixty degree arc vernier scale horizontal to telescope. (b) stop, small ring with tightening thumbscrew and long arm tangent to ring with set screws at ends to stop telescope within 90 degree quadrant. (c) horizontal plate, circular brass disk marked off around perimeter into 360 degrees and numbered every tenth degree from 1-36 around. (d) pivot pin, turned brass pin with grips, stops, and threads to screw whole transit together and mount on tripod. Marks: patent no.; manufacturer.

- Large wooden tripod for use with transit (104.44.1015). Varnished wood with collapsing (telescoping) three legs with brass leg points and thumb screws for leg adjustments. The top bezel of threaded brass has a round wooden cover cap. Brass leg brackets are stamped: “W. & L.E. GURLEY, TROY, N.Y.”
