The toy penguin is tin and covered with a black and white fabric. His stomach and underneath his chin, and arms the fabric is white. The remaining body is black fabric. The penguin still has both of his plastic eyes, which seem to be in good condition. His nose and feet appear to be tin and are painted orange with black detailing for the nails and nostrils. The wind-up device, located at the viewer left, is also assumed to be tin and has been painted purple. The penguin also has a orange bow tie located just beneath the neck where you would expect a bow tie to be. There is identical blue patent stickers underneath the arms on both the viewer left and right side. The patent sticker contains the words “TRADE MARK” with the MT (Masudaya) logo directly underneath and “MODERN TOYS P. PATENT” “MADE IN JAPAN” all in silver lettering. The patent sticker on the viewer right is more worn and has suffered some discolouring. The penguin also has metal wheels on the bottom of the feet. The penguin is still functioning; when it is wound the head, wings and mouth move and the wheels underneath move the penguin forward.Made in Japan.

Description
A wind-up doll toy of a girl playing a banjo. The doll is standing on one foot and is attached to a pink piece of plastic that is in turn attached to a platform with four wheels. The metal platform is green and the metal wheels are red. The crank to make the object move is located on the viewer right side and is also made of metal. The doll has black boots with a single pom pom and is wearing yellow-muted colour bell bottom style pants with two pom poms around the bottom of the pant. She is also wearing a matching top that has ruffles around the cuffs and neckline that are a slightly darker shade of yellow. On her back “MADE IN JAPAN” has been imprinted around a tied bow. The doll is wearing a light pink toque-style cap with three pom poms. The doll is playing a banjo that has red paint distinguishing the banjo from the doll. There is a metal rod supporting a pink umbrella, which runs through the side of the doll’s head connecting the doll to the metal crank. Hanging from the umbrella is a series of eight plastic strings containing different coloured balls. In the middle of the umbrella, above the doll’s head, there are three metal bells hanging from a yellow and red rounded decorative ball attached to the metal rod. When you turn the metal crank the doll spins causing the strings with the balls to swing horizontally round-and-round in a counter clockwise direction. The crank only moves in one direction. Made in Japan.
