- Fossilized colonial coral, middle Devonian in age. Common throughout North America. Species: Pachyphyllum. Warm shallow ocean environment. Limestone matrix. Has undergone weathering. Coral structure is well defined. Small crinoid fragments exposed on one side. Recrystallization of the rock is occurring is some areas, calcite crystals growing in the vugs (cavities). These types of coral fossils are very common in Western Canada and could have been collected locally.
