- A set of two bookends.(a) is the viewer-left bookend in the set, with an upright cross-section of a flat-bottom rail (on the viewer-right) with a rail spike resting diagonally against it’s viewer-left side at a 45 degree angle. The cross-section of the flat-bottom rail is the surface that has contact with the book that it is holding upright.(b) is the viewer-right bookend in the set, with an upright cross-section of a flat-bottom rail (on the viewer-left) with a rail spike resting diagonally against it’s viewer-right side at a 45 degree angle. The cross-section of the flat-bottom rail is the surface that has contact with the book that it is holding upright. On both bookends, the rail spike and cross-section of a flat-bottom rail sit atop a triangular, varnished wood base. All of the top edges of the wood base have been rounded (except for the edge that has contact with the book it is holding upright). The bottom of the bases are covered with green felt. There is a plaque on the base of both bookends (located between the rail spike and the cross-section of a flat-bottom rail) which is orientated on a diagonal that is parallel with the angle of the triangular base. The plaque on (a) reads: “Nicholas Morant” (bolded); “Photographer Publicity Department Entered Service March 1, 1937”” in black ink. On the viewer-left side of this text there is a CPR crest that reads: “CANADIAN PACIFIC” at the top; then “RAILWAY LINES”; and “WORLD’S GREATEST TRAVEL SYSTEM” at the bottom - enclosed in a small circle. The plaque on (b) reads: “Canadian Pacific”; “Nicholas Morant” (bolded); “Special Photographer Public Relations and Advertising Pensioned June 1, 1981” in black ink.
