- A flatiron (a) that is resting on a trivet (b).a) The heavy cast iron flatiron is oval with pointed ends. The iron has a semi-circular round wooden handle which detaches from base of iron by pulling a wooden knob at the centre, under the handle, to release a spring (while the heating iron on a hot stove. b) The cast iron trivet is painted black. The trivet is triangular with a cut-out bars and hole design, and there is a short lip along the sides. The bottom of the trivet is marked “J.A.S. Smart Mrg. Co. Li-it-d Canada”.
