- Low to medium grade metamorphic rock. Phyllite with wavy surface due to deformation of the clay layers in the original rock. Original rock was probably a muddy sandstone. Silky sheen on surface due to formation of mica flakes. In the metamorphic series, this specimen is between a slate and a schist.
