- No dustjacket. Pasted onto flyleaf: an original summit note by Conrad Kain, June 23, 1913 Mount Whymper, retrieved by F.C. Bell in 1957. Handwritten annotation reads: A climb of Mt. Whymper was made on Aug 7, 1957 by a small party of ACC members, one of whom was Mr. Don Morrison of Calgary. The cairn at the top contained some now deteriorating records, one of which was Whymper's own certificate of original climb on June 26, 1901, together with the names of his guides Mr. Klucker, Pollmager, Bosemay and C. Kaufmann. There was also a note by Conrad Kain of his climb of June 23, 1913; the latter has been considered worthy of preservation in his book "Where the clouds can go" and has been offered above. [signed] F.C. Bell, Alpine Club House, Banff, August 8, 1957. Inscribed by Lillian Gest. The book is stamped with the Alpine Club of Canada as well as an ACC bookplate on the front pastedown. Note: For a complete account of finding the Whymper original 1901 ascent record, see Canadian Alpine Journal 1958 article by Don Morrison "First Ascent of Unnamed Peak, 9050 feet : west of Mt. Whymper, above Vermillion Pass"
