- Samuel E. S. Allen papers : 1945. -- Copy made ca.1985. -- 1 textual record. -- Samuel E. S. Allen, 1874-1945, was a mountaineer from Philadelphia, U.S.A. who first visited the Rockies and Selkirks in 1891. He returned in 1893 to climb in the Lake Louise area with Walter D. Wilcox, a fellow Yale student. Allen explored Paradise Valley and in subsequent years explored the Moraine Lake, Valley of the Ten Peaks and Lake O'Hara regions, making numerous ascents and assigning many Stoney Nakoda names to geographic features. Soon after, his career was cut short by mental illness. -- Papers are last will and testament and probate proceedings. -- Gift of Mary Ann Kae, 1985.
