- History / Biographical
- John Porter, b.1922, was a civil engineer, surveyor, photographer, skier, writer, artist and national park warden at Banff, Alberta, Canada. Porter came to Banff in 1948 and, until 1952, worked as an assistant warden in various districts. From 1952 until 1966, he operated his own photographic business, IBEX, in Banff. From 1966 until his retirement, Porter worked as a technician for the Sulphur Mountain Cosmic Radiation Laboratory in Banff; then travelled, painted and photographed extensively in Mexico, while spending summers working in Banff as a surveyor. Porter now lives in Sooke, British Columbia.
