The Lewthwaite family were long-time residents of Banff, Alberta, Canada. Irene Margaret Smith, 1891-1983, came to Banff on a holiday and trained as a nurse at the Brett Sanitarium. She met and married Clifford A. Lewthwaite, d.1954, a travel agent for the Canadian Pacific Railway. The couple settled in Banff in the early 1930s. They had two sons, J. R. (Bob) and Donald, d.1943. Clifford Lewthwaite worked for the government in the treasurer's office until his retirement in 1953.
