A gray watercoloured stone path leads back to a Japanese temple with two levels of curving roof. The path winds through a garden of stone sculptures that stand on pedestals before reaching the temple. The temple is coloured with red on the outside walls and windows are yellow and the sloping roofs are green. A stone wall is to the right of the temple and behind it is a tree trunk painted in brown with two branches in yellow and green. Framing the image to the right is the beginning of a curved gable that enters into the frame but is discontinued.

In the BL section of the paper there is a drawing depicting a street in China. There are people out doing chores and tasks and above them there is some sort of string holding items up between the two buildings, and there is signs on the sides of the buildings that are advertising what they are for. Above the drawings there is multiple numbers written out in some sort of mathematical equation (addition), the words “johnwood mass”, “wood John mass.” which is circled, “TEEI”, and “TEEPEE”. This drawing is a stylistically loose portrayal of a mountain scene. This scene is comprised only of mountains and rock - no trees or such other landscape. There is a peak in TLC and the mountain slopes downward to another smaller peak in the TRC. The foreground of the piece is comprised of many loose rocks that are piled on top of one another and recede into the background. The line quality of the drawing in the foreground is much heavier and more detailed than the background. Shading in the piece is done mostly with cross-hatching.

Lorne Caswell Paul, b.1904, worked at the Jasper Park Lodge in Jasper, Alberta, 1927-1928. Later he was a professor at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

History / Biographical
Dimitri Georgevitch de Leuchtenberg (1898-1972), Duke of Leuchtenberg was a member of the Franco-Russian Beauharnais house. In 1927 the Marquis Nicholas degli Albizzi invited Dimitri and his wife Catherine (1900-1991) to join him for the summer at the cabin he had subleased from A.O. Wheeler at Mount Assiniboine. Albizzi and Dimitri were cousins.
The Duke and Duchess de Leuchtenberg lived in Germany following the Russian Civil War and in 1931 began annual winter trips to Quebec to visit Albizzi and his new winter sports station in Saint-Sauveur-des-Monts in the Laurentians mountains in Quebec.
The Duke worked for Albizzi as a ski school instructor. In 1937 he was chosen to be a member of the Canadian Ski School Committee and in 1938 was a founding member of the Ski Instructor's Alliance.
In 1939 the Duke de Leuchtenberg bought the Saint-Sauveur station from Albizzi and moved his family permanently to Quebec, Canada.
