Sketches feature Christmas card ideas, figure studies, teepee interiors, rows of teepees with people in front/around them, animals, a house [done in watercolour paints, possibly by a child named Ian], and the funeral of Chief David Bearspaw, 1956. Some pages appear to have been torn from other sketchbooks and inserted in this one - there are also smaller papers of sketches folded up and tucked between the pages.

The painting is bordered in black ink. The pieces of the portfolio are made of green-grey paper wrapped around a piece of cardstock, sealed on the inside with a decorative page consisting of hand-drawn black and yellow hexagons with simple floral designs inside them. The covers are held together with a length of red cord wound through three holes punched along one edge. There is an additional hole punched in the middle of the open edge.
