History / Biographical
Malcolm Daniel Geddes, 1866-1927, was a journalist, publisher and mountaineer at Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Geddes was one of the founders of the "Farmers and Ranch Review" in 1904, and served as vice-president and editor until his death. He joined the Alpine Club of Canada in 1917, was active in ACC summer camps and served as Honorary Secretary from 1924 to 1926. Geddes was killed in a mountaineering accident on Mount Lefroy in 1927.

Fonds consists of textual and visual records pertaining to Malcolm Geddes, as well as his immediate family: wife Jennie (Waters) Geddes, and children Alvin and Enid Geddes; and extended family members. Fonds includes records related to Malcolm's work as a poet and author (including original drafts and publications), Malcolm's career in real estate, family letters, financial records, records of mountain ascents and hikes with the Alpine Club of Canada, family trees and genealogical research, and other related materials.

Journal contains early newspaper articles and correspondence pertaining to George and John McDougall, and multiple religious missions and settlements located in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Content includes two copies [one printed and one scanned duplicate] of published text "The Diary of Deacon Elihu Woodworth 1835 - 1836", published 1972; several letters sent to Maud and Forest Kidney pertaining to their golden wedding anniversary in 1973, the wedding of Jane Ruth McConville and John Philip Malton, a ceremony marking the naming of Mount Jimmy Simpson in 1974, and a letter to Karin MacAulay from her friend Joyce; booklets/programmes for events held by the Southern Alberta Pioneers' and Old Timers' Association, the Banff Figure Skating Club, and the Banff Community High School's 1979 graduation ceremony; news clippings describing local events and the obituary of Ted MacAulay, 1984; pamphlets for Roadside mountain Trophy Hunts; and notes on the Kidney family tree and Woodworth family burial sites.
