Two pairs of different types of Inuit mittens. (a) blue wool duffle cloth cut in three pieces to shape and contour of the hand, and seamed with a feather stitch around sides of hand, across palm, and along sides of thumb following the edges of the cut pieces. Cuff flares slightly, and is edged with a thick band of decorative white stitching. Embroidered simple red flower with green leaves on front of wrist. (b) grey sealskin , very wide, unfitted mittens cut from three pieces of skin in the same manner as (a). Skin on palm turned so that fur is inside and hide outside. Small cuff of darker fur, thumb is very wide and triangular.
General colours: blue, white. A huge mountain fills the major part of the canvas. The lower sides are treed snowy slopes. At the center near the bottom, the black engine of an old style train is steaming towards the viewer. The track and telephone poles veer to the left.
