Thickly padded crown lined with grey cotton fabric. Printed inside crown "Holmenkol luen" On small red paper label "7 1/2 59", on yellow label "S.H. Hagen & Co. a/s Oslo Winter Sports Articles Made in Norway" (b) 28.5x17.0x9.5, as (a) but ear flap lined with light brown fabric and cap lined with beige fabric. (c) 27.0x18.0x10.0, as (a) but rounded visor, ear flap sewn separately inside, with napped beige material lining flap, seams top stitched with orange thread. (d) 27.5x18.0x8.5, as (b) but thin unlined earflap folds to outside of cap and ties above visor with shoestring threaded through two grommet holes in visor. Pair of dark brown speed skates with guards, leather ankle high boots, no lining, removable white homemade felt insole. 14 metal ring eyelets down front opening, tongue is lined with extra piece of leather. Metal blade stamped “J. E. STRAUSS ST. PAUL MINN” Inside right leather boot (a) is sewn in label “SAMUELSON BROOKLYN, N.Y.”The blades are attached to the boot by a piece of flat metal (with 7 nails which have flared edges and are then tamped down to reinforce them on the inside of the sole of the boot) to the heel of the boot and a sole piece of flat metal by 10 nails which have flared edges and are then tamped down to reinforce them on the inside of the sole of the boot. Also on the tip of the toes there is piece of metal attaching the metal sole piece to the tubular blade with two nails; it is soldered to the blade. The are two metal funnel tubes connecting the metal footpieces to the blade; the one on the heel fits into the metal heel piece; the one on the flat part of the foot and toes fans out at the top an. There are two sturdy, brown leather skateguards on the skates. Canoe-shaped, stitched with industrial white thread; each guard had two leather straps to attach them to the blades and secured with post snaps
