- History / Biographical
- David McDougall, son of George Millward McDougall and Elizabeth Chantler McDougall, was born on May 14, 1845 in Owen Sound, Ontario. David had four siblings: John, Eliza, Lubby, and Nellie. David married Annie McKenzie in 1871 in Manitoba. Together, they had six children, including their daughter named Georgina (Georgie) Elizabeth McDougall (1872-1965). Georgina was the wife of Norman Luxton and an active member in Banff and the mother of Eleanor Georgina Luxton (1908-1995). David was an early pioneer of Calgary and Banff, who helped build both community life and their economies. While David’s father and brother were both members of the clergy and did missionary work in Morley, Alberta, David become a successful businessman. He established a general merchant store in Morley where he was a dealer in cattle, horses, furs, and curios. In addition to managing his own business block in Calgary, David also owned properties in Edmonton and Calgary. In Banff, David and Annie owned the Mount Royal Hotel for six years until they sold it to Jim Brewster in August 14, 1913. David died in December 6, 1927 and Annie died in 1939.

- Fonds consists of six series: 1. Business Correspondence; 2. Cheques, Receipts, Invoices; 3. Personal Documents; 4. Miscellaneous; 5. Blueprints; 6. Painting. Series 1 consists of business related correspondence to various companies, individuals, and two branches of the Canadian Government. Government correspondence pertains to taxes and by-laws for McDougall’s properties. Series 2 contains invoices, receipts, cheques, and bank statements pertaining to McDougall’s business and properties. Series 3 contains personal letters and legal documents. Materials includes handwritten letters, property transactions and proof of ownership on properties. Series 4 contains cheque books, Dominion Travellers’ Hotel Guide, event program featuring Commissioner Coombs and “Safety First Guarantee” slip. Series 5 contains blueprints of Mount Royal Hotel and McDougall business block, Calgary 1911. The last series consist of a painting of George Noble photograph of Banff Ave, 1929.

- History / Biographical
- Justin James McCarthy (Jimmy) Simpson, 1877-1972, was a trapper, guide and outfitter and lodge owner at Banff and Bow Lake, Alberta, Canada. Born in Stamford, Lincolnshire, Simpson was sent to Canada by his family in 1896. He worked briefly at Laggan (Lake Louise), Alberta for the Canadian Pacific Railway, travelled extensively and returned to the Rockies to work on the trail and trap. By the early 1900s, he was a successful guide and outfitter with Carl Rungius and the Alpine Club of Canada as clients. Starting in 1920, Simpson began building Num-Ti-Jah Lodge at Bow Lake as a base for hunting and climbing parties. Simpson and Williamina (Billie) Ross Reid, 1891-1968, married in 1916 and had three children. The lodge was run mainly by Billie Simpson and in 1945 the business was turned over to Jimmy Simpson Jr., 1922-2003 . Daughters Margaret Simpson, 1917-1941, and Mary Simpson (Hallock), 1919-2002, were internationally-famous figure skaters.

- I. Jimmy Simpson Sr. papers and photographs, ca.1901-1972, ca.74 cm of textual records, 23 photograph albums (ca.2875 prints), 425 transparencies. Includes business and personal correspondence, business records and subject files, 1903-1972; literary papers, 1912-1972; and other papers, 1903- 1957. - A pair of heavily beaded buckskin moccasins with large ankle flap and narrow tongue. Entire toe and outside of foot covered with beading. Blue background with single green stepped diamond at centre of toe outlined with red-orange squares, then white squares, and hanging from a light blue stepped triangle outlined with red orange squares, then white squares. This diamond, flanked by the triangle, is repeated again on the outer side of the heel. The beadwork is trimmed around the sole edge with a checkered band of red orange and light blue squares. Long buckskin thongs are threaded through slits in the moccasin on either side of the tongue, and on one moccasin through slits in the tongue as well.

Bead pattern in blue, yellow, vermilion and black is a rectangle with a double pointed arrow through it, triangles extruding from top and bottom, and a small diamond pattern at the toe. Edge of cuff, and outline of tongue are in blue, orange, white, red, black and yellow beads.

- A pair of handmade low top slipper style moccasins, tucked at the heel, a vamp inserted over the arch, and a simple thong tie on the ankle piece. Decorated simply but effectively with blue and red beads at the seam of the vamp, and a red embroidery diamond stitched at the toe of the vamp. Moccasins are lined with an extra layer of buckskin forming an inner sole to the slipper, machine stitched in.

- Description
- A pair of buckskin moccasins cut in one piece to shape of foot and handsewn along outside of sole and up heel. Toe beaded with three stylized diamond shaped leaved outlined in white and containing multi-coloured checked squares, light blue, black, red, green, yellow and hanging from a wide stepped triangle checked with the same colours under the tongue. The small rounded tongue and folded down ankle flap have narrow scalloped beaded border of white with blue, black and red beads in each scallop. The ankle flap has four sets of double diamond shapes outlined in white and filled in with the same colours as on the toe. Very thin short buckskin ties heavily beaded at the ends with double tassels wrapped with bands of green, red, black light blue and white beads. Have been used.
