(b) large grey and gold fish, carp? about to swallow piece of kelp or seaweed. (c) mottled brown over pale vermilion outside bowl. Inside bowl grey and gold chrysanthemum branch. Laquer applied thickly and is flaking and curling off, fair condition only. (d) pale vermillion ground throughout, inside bowl heavily decorated in grey, gold, green and deep vermillion plant design, possibly a pepper tree. Exterior bowl has one only pepper ? branch on it.

Description
A long scroll rolled on a wooden dowel, with light red brown piece of silk stiffened with paper lining which rolls around outside to form cover, tying with long purple braided silk cord attached at end, scroll which is pieced in several places, unrolls to show long, continuous scene of monkeys, hares, frogs and other animals engaged in various human activities. Long paper label on end of scroll with Japanese writing, presumably the title. Scroll is contained in long rectangular cardboard box with red brown lid and same label as on scroll pasted to top of lid, and ink stamped Japanese writing inside base of box. Also contains green paper sheets in English and Japanese explaining the scroll, and a sheet of white paper completely in Japanese.Made in Japan.

A small oblong leather hanging pouch hanging from an oval brass ring. Front of pebbly textured brown leather, with back and flap of one piece of smooth, lighter brown leather. Pouch is stiff and shaped to give it thickness. Snap clasp at edge of flap is cast silver snail with frog climbing on its back. Braided cord through grommets at top of the flap, passes through ornately pierced silver bead and is attached through eye of oval, brass ring. Ring has scrolly cloud or wave design around. Leather at top of pouch front is rolled down the flap closing over it.
