- Glen Boles (1934-2022), was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick and moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1953. In 1957 he was persuaded to climb with co-worker and mountain guide Heinz Kahl, a native Bavarian. Heinz Kahl and English climber Brian Greenwood introduced Boles to more difficult climbing. Boles has climbed extensively in the Rockies, summiting over 400 peaks including many new routes and first ascents. He has also climbed in the Interior Ranges of British Columbia as well as the St. Elias Range of Alaska and the Alps. Boles is also an avid skier and spent 13 years on the Canadian Ski Patrol System and is a member of the Ski Friends program in Lake Louise.
- Boles retired from the City of Calgary Waterworks Engineering Division in 1991 after thirty-five years employment. Boles and his wife (married in 1965) reside in Cochrane, Alberta. From his mountain experiences, Glen has developed an interest in photography, drawing and writing and has co-authored "The Climbing Guide to the Canadian Rockies-South" and "Place Names of the Canadian Alps" with Bill Putnam and Roger Laurilla.

- A revelatory portrait of eight Indigenous communities from across North America, shown through never-before-published archival photographs--a gorgeous extension of Paul Seesequasis's popular social media project. In 2015, writer and journalist Paul Seesequasis found himself grappling with the devastating findings of Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission report on the residential school system. He sought understanding and inspiration in the stories of his mother, herself a residential school survivor. Gradually, Paul realized that another, mostly untold history existed alongside the official one: that of how Indigenous peoples and communities had held together during even the most difficult times. He embarked on a social media project to collect archival photos capturing everyday life in First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities from the 1920s through the 1970s. As he scoured archives and libraries, Paul uncovered a trove of candid images and began to post these on social media, where they sparked an extraordinary reaction. Friends and relatives of the individuals in the photographs commented online, and through this dialogue, rich histories came to light for the first time. Blanket Toss Under Midnight Sun collects some of the most arresting images and stories from Paul's project. While many of the photographs live in public archives, most have never been shown to the people in the communities they represent. As such, Blanket Toss is not only an invaluable historical record, it is a meaningful act of reclamation, showing the ongoing resilience of Indigenous communities, past, present--and future. - In August 2016, a group of about 40 residents as well as a couple of county councillors met at the Eagle Valley Community Hall to discuss the process of creating a new area structure plan under the oversight of a steering committee. The result of that meeting was a consensus to create a working group to provide the county with input as well as to help officials “understand who we are as a community, the commitment that we have to the land we live on, and our heritage, cultural and social resources that are in the community,”.Five volunteers — Anne Macklin, Lynne Henry, Douglas McCullough, Bill Souster and Greif — formed the Eagle Valley Working Group, which is not affiliated with any recognized societies already in the region. Over the following six months, a questionnaire was formulated to glean information from the community’s residents. A summary of the survey’s results was then discussed during a meeting held at the Sundre Petroleum Operators Group’s office this past January. When the process started, a number of important stakeholders in terms of working relationships were identified, such as the oil and gas industry, social services including Greenwood Neighbourhood Place as well as the Town of Sundre. So following January’s meeting, the working group was tasked with preparing the legacy document. Included within its pages is information about Eagle Valley’s climate, oil and gas sector, geology, as well as infrastructure issues such as roads, wastewater, water, parks and recreation. - Born in the west but raised initially in the east, Dale Portman was eight years old when his family headed back to the land of the Rockies. Growing up in Calgary, he was introduced to the Rocky Mountains at an early age and as a young man eventually found work in Banff National Park, where he spent most of his time in the saddle while working for outfitter Bert Mickle, based out of Skoki Lodge near Lake Louise. Jobs in the local tourist industry and at a couple of ski hills followed. Eventually Dale was drawn to the warden service, doing avalanche control and forecasting in Rogers Pass, with the backcountry of northern Jasper, Yoho National Park and Field, BC, eventually becoming the stage for many memorable, humorous, tragic and life-affirming moments. The Green Horse takes the reader on a journey through a time when our mountain national parks were less touristy and more substantive. - Hangdog Days vividly chronicles the era when rock climbing exploded in popularity, attracting a new generation of talented climbers eager to reach new heights via harder routes and faster ascents. This contentious, often entertaining period gave rise to sport climbing, climbing gyms, and competitive climbing--indelibly transforming the sport.
