- (a) Large dark brown wooden box camera which is constructed so that back half of camera slides into front half to focus and is secured in place by means of a brass thumbscrew into a slot in the base. Large brass lens screwed over aperture hole at centre of front side of wooden box, square glass plate set into wooden frame slides into slot at back of camera. (b) a separate plateholder of the same size has hinged door on back of frame which opens to insert black metal film sheath (Eastman Kodak), and front of frame slides out by pulling on metal ring at top to expose film. Note: wood cracking and separated at joints, chipped at lower front corners with large chunk of wood out of lower right, plateholder cracked across door and on one side of top.

- Traditional sampler, 4.0 wide border is a line of stitching in pyramid shapes with flower baskets. At the top of inside border is the upper case alphabet, one line of small letters, other in bigger letters and two lines. In the centre is a picture of a white house to the left, a green picket fence, two trees and to the right a two storey brown house. Below that is six lines of writing beginning "One Weeks Extremity May Teach Us ....." "Susan Lehman her work done In the ninth year Of Her Age (__ ?) 1799" * Someone numbered the labels as (a) and (b) and the sampler as (c). It is too fragile to change

- Description
- A needlepoint sampler, in many colours, done in cross-stitch on a loosely woven ecru linen. The sampler has a narrow double-stitched border with a floral band at the top followed by rows of letters of the alphabet separated by horizontal bars. Most of the letters are worked twice together through the alphabet repeating from A to D at the end, followed by another floral band as at the top, and then “Susanah Lehman November the 3 1796.” The sampler was originally framed in a simple brown wood frame with parallel line texture (wood grain?) and has a framer’s sticker on the back “The Royal Art Gallery” (Calgary, Alberta).

The sampler has a narrow stitched border with a design in the band at the top followed by rows of letters separated by horizontal bars. The alphabet is stitched with each letter worked twice, followed by the alphabet with each letter worked once until “P” at the end of the sampler where “Susana Lhaman” (sic) is stitched. The sampler was originally framed with a simple brown wood frame with parallel line texture (wood grain?).

Around this is a symmetrical design of four groupings of stylized flowers at sides top and bottom on beige background surrounded by a narrow khaki border. Between each of these designs are four groupings of three flowers in same style embroidered directly on burgundy background.
