Description

Bed frame of heavy 4 x 13.5 cm. boards, reinforced at the corners on the outside with short pieces of the same boards cut into sharp points. Head and foot boards are solid and fastened into cornerposts in mortise and tenon. Large metal carriage bolts fastened through the cornerposts into the frame. Corner reinforcement nailed through to frame. b) Mattress - innerspring covered in blue with large white floral wreath covering both sides, piping at edges imprinted "Simmons", vertical quilting on sides with four straps for turning, tufted through with bar-like buttons. c) Box spring - on wooden frame built to ride on frame of bed; covered with blue and white wide striped fabric with floral pattern on blue, whole covered with heavy white cotton fabric stapled to its frame. A heavy sheet of plywood with its corners cut to fit the bed is between the mattresses.

Each cupboard door is on two hinges. Doors conceal three pine plywood shelves, two of which have not been stained. Handles, screwed onto drawers and cupboard doors, are polyhedron shaped, almost rectangular, blocks of wood. Each drawer has one horizontal handle, 27.5 cm. long by 3 cm. deep, door panel handles are vertical, 15 x 3 cm. Base of each cupboard is 7.5 cm. high, indented 2 cm. from front. Sides continue uninterrupted from floor to top of cupboard. Pressed board back terminates 7.5 cm. from floor. Plain 1 x 2.5 cm. pine molding frames top. (a) and (b) are identical except that (b) has an air vent built into base and a portion cut out of its bottom left side with a piece of sheet metal surrounding cut-out.

Description
A large, folding, four-paneled screen with painted lake scene one side, patterned gauze material the other. Scene, painted on canvas with water based pigments, covers entire screen from side to side and top to bottom, tranquil lake with small sailboats and thatch-covered hut in the background, three white herons and water lilies in the foreground beside a tall stand of white orchid-like flowers and spikey leaves filling the whole right panel and half of the next panel. Back is covered with green gauze material printed with a stippled white background around silhouettes of large flowers, traces of faded red define some of the petals within the flowers. Screen is hinged by means of the canvas and backing fabric continuing from one panel to the next, and folds in accordion fashion. Screen framed along sides and bottom and top with wood which has been finished with reddish paint and graining technique, outer corners trimmed and protected with short strips of thin, embossed sheet metal, with flower blossom shaped tacks evenly spaced along the edge. Left side has additional strip in the middle. Each screen panel has wooden skeleton frame beneath fabric consisting of a single upright with cross braces down its length. Back of skeleton frame beneath gauze covered with black paper, beneath canvas with brown paper.
