Motif on topside is a dragon in midground on curved lines which suggest a waterfall, and a scroll or spiral on far right. Horizontal lines in varying hues of blues are interrupted by a white pyramid in background suggesting, perhaps, Mt. Fuji. One dragon claw creeps between two of the horizontals, underside of plates have three identical motifs, each of which is four overlapping circles surrounded by curly blue ribbon like lines and bows. Foot is painted in a vertical stripe. Although both plates are from the same pattern, slight difference indicates that they were hand painted.

(a) paper knife, very slim, long, stiletto like steel blade which is set in a cast brass handle with an organic relief design including a cast face at the top on the front and back of the handle. (b) scissors, slim, straight, pointed blades of steel, with a ridge down the back of each blade. Set into cast brass handles with organic relief design with dragons or fish forming the finger loops. Two sides of handles fit together with a flush, straight edge up the middle, ending in a curlicue finial at the centre top. (c) sheath, very heavy cast brass with plush lined pockets inside to accommodate the scissors and knife one atop the other. Relief design repeats organic curlicues, with heavy casting at end of cherubs entwined in curly leaves. Because of thickness of handles, scissors and knife do not both fit flush when together in sheath. 3 pieces.
