History / Biographical: Ella Maud [Woodworth] Kidney (1894-1977) was born in Banff as the fourth of 11 siblings. Her parents were Benjamin Woodworth and Elizabeth [McIntire] Woodworth. Growing up, Maud worked briefly for the Alberta Hotel and the Bottling Works company in Banff. Maud was married to John A. MacAulay in 1917, and widowed later that year. Her twin sons, John A. [Jack] and Thomas A. [Ted] MacAulay, were born in 1918. Maud married Forest H. "Pop" Kidney (1889-1979) on February 14, 1923, and the new family settled into the Kidney home on Wolf and Muskrat Street. The Kidney residence was originally located in Bankhead, but was moved to Banff and sold following the town's closure in 1922. Maud and Forest operated several local businesses including Banff Grocery, Quaker Coffee Shop, Pop's Bakery and Kidney Kabins. The Kidneys were also active in community affairs throughout their lives. Maud Kidney was a long-time member of the Girls' Sunshine Flower Club in Banff [and the club's president for over a decade spanning across the 1940's], as well as the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire [I.O.D.E.] and Rebekah Lodge, and she was matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Banff in 1950. Forest Kidney was involved in the Banff Shriners Club, the Kiwanis Club, the Independent Order of Oddfellows and the Canadian Restaurants Association [CRA], among other groups; in the early 1960's, Forest also served as the President of the Calgary branch of the CRA. Jack and Ted MacAulay grew up together in Banff, where they were involved in Banff's Boy Scouts program and local hockey teams. Jack in particular was an avid hockey player, until an accident in 1940 caused damage to his right eye which kept him from competing. From 1943 to 1945, Jack worked for Boeing Aircraft of Canada Ltd., and in 1946 he was appointed as the Chief Inspector of War Assets for Alberta and the Yukon Territories. Jack married Karin Wallensteen in 1946, and the couple had 6 children together: sons Herb and John, and daughters Karen, Shelley, Jodi and Julie-Ann. Jack served as a coach for the Banff Minor Hockey League for 46 years. Jack also took on several other positions within the Bow Valley community, including working as a volunteer with the Banff Figure Skating Club, a co-founder of the Banff Recreation Board, and a member of the Banff Advisory Council, the Banff Hospital Board and the Banff School Board.

Series IV content pertains to extended family and friends of the Kidneys and the wider Banff community. Includes receipts, log books and financial records, photographs of Kidney Kabins and Quaker Coffee Shop, and receipts for land purchased by Forest Kidney, George Noble and others. Series VI contains commercial postcards collected by the Kidney family. History / Biographical: Also known as "Arctic Rampage," directed by Peter Hunt in 1981 and starred Charles Bronson, Lee Marvin, and Angie Dickinson. Loosely based on the true-life story of Albert Johnson (The Mad Trapper of Rat River) who was pursued by the Mounted Police in the Northwest Territories and Yukon after shooting a police constable in 1932. Filmed entirely in the Canmore/Spray Lakes area, apart from one scene at the Athabasca Glacier, Jasper National Park. "Death Hunt" was the first film to use Canmore and the Spray Valley as primary set locations, and many locals were recruited as extras. Additionally, dog teams were brought from throughout Alberta for Mad Trapper pursuit scenes on the Spray Lakes Reservoir. Mountaineer and Association of Canadian Mountain Guide Tim Auger stood in as a body double for Bronson for some scenes.

History / Biographical: "Housekeeping," 1987, directed by Bill Forsyth and starring Christine Lahti, Sara Walker, and Andrea Burchill. Set in the Pacific Northwest. After their mother commits suicide, two sisters go to live with their eccentric aunt in a remote mountain town Location filming primarily in Nelson, BC, but skating scenes were filmed on Spray Lakes Reservoir in Kananaskis. Trivia: Director Bill Forsyth original wanted to find a large frozen lake in the Yukon to film the skating scene that closes the movie. Bruno Engler, as the on-scene photographer in Nelson, suggested the much more accessible Spray Lakes near Canmore. The movie, which is set in the 1950s, was originally going to be filmed in the same location as the book its based on, Sandpoint Idaho. However, the town of Sandpoint had changed too much by 1986 to suit the film's needs and instead the town of Nelson, British Columbia was chosen.

A bounty hunter is hired to track fugitives who have escaped into the Montana wilderness. After the fugitives are discovered murdered, the bounty hunter and a female anthropologist embark on a journey that eventually uncovers a “lost” Indigenous tribe in the mountains. Location filming primarily around the Canmore area, including Kananaskis Country, and around the Banff townsite, including the Magpie & Stump restaurant and the Parks Canada Administration Building. Some filming was also done at Takakkaw Falls in Yoho National Park.

History / Biographical: "Where the North Wind Blows" [working title: "The Snow Tigers"], 1975, directed by Stewart Raffill and starring Henry Brandon, Herbert Nelson, Dan Haggerty, and Fernando Celis . Set in Alaska, a burly trapper escapes into the wilderness after accidentally shooting his friend’s son. While pursuing a solitary life, he encounters a mother Siberian snow tiger and her cubs. When the tigress is killed by hunters, the trapper adopts the orphan tigers and defends them from hunters. Location filming mostly around the Kananaskis Country and Canmore areas.
