History / Biographical: William D. Buck, 1859-1922, was born in England and is thought to have served during the First World War with the 103 Calgary Rifles. Buck was a Sergeant at the Banff and Castle Mountain internment camps, ca.1915-1917, and appears to have accompanied prisoners to a camp at Kapuskasing, Ontario after closure of the Castle Mountain camp in 1917.

Scope & Content: File pertains to a photograph album depicting snapshots of prisoners of war and surroundings taken by Seargent William D. Buck of the Banff, Castle Mountain, and Kapuskasing, ON, internment camps during World War I. History / Biographical: The Alpine Club of Canada, the national mountaineering club, was founded in 1906 by A. O. Wheeler and other like-minded climbers. The club espoused scientific study and exploration, cultivation of art, public education, acquisition of climbing skills, and preservation of natural areas within the mountainous regions of Canada. Through a national executive, local sections and volunteer committees, the club provided climbing camps, clubhouse, huts, and publications, including the Canadian Alpine Journal. ACC expeditions and projects resulted in pioneer exploration, first ascents, and included mountain warfare training during the Second World War. In recent years, the club's membership has increased dramatically with the popularity of climbing and its programs have evolved to serve the needs of unguided climbers using sophisticated technical aids.

Scope & Content: Includes ACC history and Canadian Rockies.

Notes: There is an annotation on the first page that describes the scrapbook as being created by S.H. Mitchell, a club secretary, and pertaining to the clubs early years.; Scrapbook contains 5 inserts, the first being an envelope with newspaper clippings, and the other 4 being identical copies of The Alpine Herald from November 1907. The inserts can be found on page 1, 27, 189, 219, and 265.

History / Biographical: Frederick Albert Woodworth (August 8, 1895 - April 16, 1916) was the fifth child of eleven, born to parents Elizabeth and Benjamin Woodworth in the town of Banff. Fred Woodworth worked as an electrician in the mines at Bankhead prior to joining the war effort in February 1915. Fred was shot by enemy fire on April 16, 1916 and is now buried in Ypres, Belgium. Fred has a second memorial located in the Woodworth family section of the Banff Town Cemetery.

Scope & Content: File consists of a published guidebook for ice hockey, three menus/programmes for events in Banff, three postcards, three pages of loose poetry, and news clippings/pages from newspapers. Content pertains to a community Christmas dinner event at the King Edward Hotel in Banff; loose poetry, handwritten; postcards sent to Benjamin Sr., Maud and Ethel Woodworth, between 1906 and ca. 1915; a copy of the newsletter "Trench Echo" from the 27th Battalion in Winnipeg from 1915; a dinner banquet menu/programme for the 56th Overseas Battalion dated 1916; a news clipping announcing the marriage of Ted and Minnie Davidson, ca. 1915; two pages of a June 7, 1888 publication of the "National Park Life" newspaper; an invitation to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Ladies Auxiliay Annual Ball 1914; and a news clipping of a memorial article for Frederick Woodworth who was killed in action during World War I.

Notes: One page of a two-page handwritten poem is signed "E M W" [likely "Ella Maud Woodworth"].

History / Biographical: Adelia Woodworth Nickerson (1902 - 1977) was the ninth child of Elizabeth and Benjamin F. Woodworth, and was born and raised in Banff. Adelia married Nick Nickerson and later moved to Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

Scope & Content: File consists of one scrapbook produced by Adelia Woodworth and dated 1915. Scrapbook was previously used as a minutes book for community meetings held in Banff. First 10 pages contain news clippings and various typed poems and songs, as well as paper images of King Edward VII, flags of the world and a loose page from the Artistic Publishing Co., Ltd in London. The following 76 pages contain minutes and general notes from meetings in Banff from 1892-1895, naming R.G. Brett, Benjamin Woodworth Sr. and others. Two pages near end of book have additional notes on Australian Cadets.
