The plates are hinged so that the two outside plates fold down to rest on the table at each side of the brass ring, and the middle plate swings to a horizontal position held in place at the middle of the ring by a hinge at either side. Each plate is covered with a geometric pattern of green and red enamel with a red bird at the centre (peacock? or turkey? with tail outspread). The bottom of each plate is marked with “6”.
