Vern was (d. circa 1960) a Danish-born ship's carpenter who sailed on a ship called the Jupiter which he pronounced you-peter. Pete Whyte was confused by you-peter and once clarified it became a joke between the three of them. “Banff” was made for Catharine and “Peter” was made for Pete. Vern worked with Sam Ward at various trimming, finishing, alteration carpentry work on the Whyte home.
