- A lathe-turned round-dish, flat-bottomed box with a domed, lapping lid which fits flushly over a flange on the box body. Box and lid are painted a boxcar red and decorated with designs of circles and flowers, varnish over paint has oxidized. Interior of box has been painted a dark green.

- The Vaux family of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania were photographers, mountaineers and scientists. Mary M. Vaux, 1860-1940, George Vaux Jr., 1863-1927, and William S. Vaux Jr., 1872-1908, were the children of George Vaux (VIII) of Philadelphia. They were all involved in photography in the early 1880s and were members of the Photographic Society of Philadelphia. All three were taking photographs when the family made its first trip west in 1885. The first Vaux family photographs of the Canadian mountain west were made in 1887 during a summer trip along the Canadian Pacific Railway to Glacier House in the Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia in 1887.
- The family made frequent visits to the Selkirk and Rocky Mountains over the next two decades to study the Illecillewaet and other glaciers, photograph, paint and climb. George's and Mary's photographic work centred on the mountain landscape, while William's concentrated upon the movement and physical features of glaciers. Due to the size of their large format cameras, the two brothers took most of the photographs during these trips and Mary was responsible for all of the printing. William Vaux died in 1908 and George did not return to the Canadian mountains after 1911; however, Mary Vaux Walcott returned to the region virtually every summer for over forty years. - Charlotte Tuerck, 1888-1975, was a nurse, farmer and horsewoman at Calgary, Olds and Banff, Alberta, Canada. Tuerck worked in various jobs in Banff between stints in farming. A skilled horsewoman, she was employed by Jim Brewster and later nursed at the Mineral Springs Hospital. She was an avid hiker and skier and spent her later years in Banff, where she was a hostess at the Peter Whyte Foundation (now the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies).

- The Girl Guides began Canadian operations in 1910 in St. Catharines, Ontario following the movement's foundation in England by Lord Baden-Powell in 1909. In 1912 Canadian headquarters were established in Toronto and in 1917 a Canadian Council was incorporated. In 1961 the organization became known as Girl Guides of Canada with a goal to teach and train girls responsibility and community service. Girls enroll in various Brownie, Guide or Ranger Packs under the supervision of volunteer Pack leaders. The girls earn badges in a wide variety of activities. The Guide movement in Alberta began in 1912 with Companies forming first in Edmonton and then around the province. A Guide Group of 9-15 girls was established in Banff in the mid-1920s followed by the creation of a Brownie Pack in 1939. In 1961 the Banff Scout-Guide Hall opened in Banff.
