Description: Smooth, rounded netsuke carved from medium brown hardwood. Snail emerging from rounded, coiled shell. Cord passage hole created by gap between snail foot and shell. Carved signature within rectangle near base of netsuke. Large crack in netsuke and one of large snail antennae is broken off in a large section and is missing. Crack possibly caused by humidity changes or damage.

Dimensions: 2.7 x 2.8 x 3.3 cm

Description: Land turtle sitting atop clam-like shell. He is facing the hinged part of the mollusk and his rear left foot is caught at the toes, in the crack in the shell. He has an unhappy expression on face and there is a flat, circular platform on top of his head, may be a damaged chip. The mollusk hinge is very crude and appears to have been broken away, there are two circles on either side of hinge where the wood is missing. Turtle is dark hardwood, shell is black lacquered wood.
