History / Biographical: The Lake O'Hara Trails Club was established 1948, dissolved in 1962 and reactivated in 1969 to create, improve and maintain a system of trails in the Lake O'Hara region of Yoho National Park, British Columbia. Later work involved providing information on the region to visitors, publishing maps and historical works, and continuing the efforts of founders, George K. K. Link and A. Carson Simpson.

History / Biographical: The Lafarge Canada Exshaw Plant Expansion and demolished of town The expansion was announced in 1972 when residents were notified by letter that the cement plant was expanding onto the land then occupied by the town of Exshaw. Plant Manager Tom Pierce visited every family affected by the expansion and explained that the plant had to expand or it would be closed. The demolition began in July of 1973 and was completed in two phases. Forty seven homes were affected by the expansion, ten of which were privately owned. The houses owned by the company were offered to their tenants for one dollar, and the owners of privately owned houses on company land were given a sum equalling half the appraised value of the house. The home owners then moved the houses onto lease land not needed for the plant expansion or onto private lots within the community. Other sites demolished as part of the expansion were the elementary school, the general store, the Protestant church, the Portland Hotel, the curling and skating rinks, and the entirety of Main Street, which was known as Portland Avenue, except for the St. Catholic Church. The Portland Hotel was constructed in 1906 and had been the social hub of the community. It was located at the top of Portland Avenue and served as a community centre, restaurant and dance hall. At that time, the existing plant was also demolished and replaced, and a new 600 foot kiln was installed.

Scope & Content: A typed text report on Banff 14 pages long - the text has been heavily edited throughout with white-out and additional pieces of paper glued overtop of written text. Accompanying the text are 26 images and 4 maps, two of which are hand-drawn as overlays of the others. The report follows the story of a family named West from Calgary visiting their cousins, the Cunninghams, in Banff sometime in the late 1960s, which is also when it is believed the report was written. It is unclear if the families are real or fictitious. The report describes in some detail the history of the area, features around town, environment, commerce, wildlife, and community and ends with a series of questions, presumably posed to students. The accompanying prints relate to the topics in the report and are numbered to correspond correctly - some prints have typed text notations attached either to the back or the front along an edge. Two prints show the town of Banff from the top of Tunnel Mountain and a Mylar sheet has been laid overtop of each with landmarks, streets, and buildings noted in blue ink. Contents of the images include the afore mentioned aerial views, the Administration Building grounds, shops along Banff Avenue (which clearly show shop-front windows, signs, cars, and peoples' outfits), the original Whyte Museum building, the Banff High School, the Cave & Basin cave and pools, various wildlife, and Banff Indian Days.

Notes: Some prints came from the Canadian Government Travel Bureau, as indicated either in the typed notations or stamped on the back of the print.
