A Japanese samurai sword with black cord handle and black scabbard. (a) sword, long curved steel blade connected at hilt with brass to wooden handle covered with white pebbly sharkskin which shows through diamond shapes left open under silk cord which wraps handle. Metal band at base of hilt and metal cap at its end have relief casting of leaves and blossoms, and a bronze casting of blossoms is caught under black cord wrapping handle, oval sword guard has cut out relief of branches and blossoms, with holes on either side large enough to allow dirk to pass through. (b) dirk, long thin blade set into brass handle with cast relief of heron standing in stream with incised bushes around. Japanese calligraphy on other side of handle. (c) scabbard, slightly curved to fit blade. Wood covered with fine grained leather with narrow black band, horn? at mouth and another at top of slit pocket where dirk slides in. Antler piece painted with a black and a red band at the end. Large globular burl at top has features of two circular faces charred into wood and another face profile of person painted red. Burl on one side in the middle has carved profile of horse's head painted red with features accented by charring. Two smaller burls near bottom are carved into animal face painted red and mouse painted yellow, with features accented by charring. Four black and red bands are around stick below top burl and another band of charred dots is around stick below middle burl. Group of three feathers tied just above middle burl with sinew.

Lined with white muslin which also covers false bottom. A series of muslin pockets run around entire circumference inside. Three coins; two silver-coloured and one brass: a)square rupee - silver- coloured with rounded corners; one face contains seated, three-faced lion with "India” and ; obverse, a large "5" at centre surrounded by script and "1967" below. b)hexagonal rupee -silver-coloured with rounded corners; one face contains three-faced lion as in (a); obverse a large "3" at centre with image of a flowering plant on either side, Indian above, and "1964" below. c)round tael(?) -brass with hole at centre one face contains shaft of grain drooping around the central hole (0.5cm) with Chinese characters on horizontal line texture below hole; obverse three defined Chinese characters at top, with two-leaved stem on either side, and a series of smaller, Chinese characters below.
