History / Biographical: Aileen Harmon (1912 - 2015), daughter of Byron Harmon, worked as a government naturalist at Banff, Alberta, Canada and was involved in local natural history groups and activities. Aileen was a founding member, alongside Bruce Gordon, of the Bow Valley Naturalists, and was also on the Board of The Canadian Wildlife Federation and The Society of Alberta Naturalists. Aileen moved to Mill Bay on Vancouver Island, B.C. in 1981 following the end of a lengthy career with Parks Canada. During her retirement years, Aileen travelled extensively, reaching all seven continents. She also authored an autobiographical book, titled "Tales of My Mountain Life", in 2004. Aileen passed away on January 9, 2015 at the age of 102.

Scope & Content: Fonds consists of textual records and photographs by and about Aileen Harmon, as well as collected items. Textual records include: letter from Harmon to the Director of Alberta's provincial parks re addition of Yamnuska area to Bow Valley Provincial Park, 1973; brief, from Harvie Heights and Bow Valley subdivision residents to public hearings on land use and resource development in the eastern slopes, 1973; letter re James Hector, 1979; notes on career, 2003; notes on Catharine Whyte for CBC recording, 2004; Christmas cards and collected articles, ca.1960. Photographs, made by and collected by Aileen Harmon, pertain to Aileen Harmon and friends, skiing, Skoki area, Mount Yamnuska, Banff Indian Days. Includes photographs by Byron Harmon. Added content from accession 2016.8596 : ca. 25 cm of textual records including personal correspondence, guest book, original writing and notes by Aileen Harmon, personal travel journals from a 1931 packing trip and 1933 ski trip to Skoki, drafts of autobiographical book "Tales of My Mountain Life", articles pertaining to or written by Aileen Harmon, Christmas cards, and letters of condolence to Carole Harmon following Aileen's passing. History / Biographical: Malcolm Daniel Geddes, 1866-1927, was a journalist, publisher and mountaineer at Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Geddes was one of the founders of the "Farmers and Ranch Review" in 1904, and served as vice-president and editor until his death. He joined the Alpine Club of Canada in 1917, was active in ACC summer camps and served as Honorary Secretary from 1924 to 1926. Geddes was killed in a mountaineering accident on Mount Lefroy in 1927.

Scope & Content: Fonds consists of textual and visual records pertaining to Malcolm Geddes, as well as his immediate family: wife Jennie (Waters) Geddes, and children Alvin and Enid Geddes; and extended family members. History / Biographical: "Housekeeping," 1987, directed by Bill Forsyth and starring Christine Lahti, Sara Walker, and Andrea Burchill. Set in the Pacific Northwest. After their mother commits suicide, two sisters go to live with their eccentric aunt in a remote mountain town Location filming primarily in Nelson, BC, but skating scenes were filmed on Spray Lakes Reservoir in Kananaskis. Trivia: Director Bill Forsyth original wanted to find a large frozen lake in the Yukon to film the skating scene that closes the movie. Bruno Engler, as the on-scene photographer in Nelson, suggested the much more accessible Spray Lakes near Canmore. The movie, which is set in the 1950s, was originally going to be filmed in the same location as the book its based on, Sandpoint Idaho. However, the town of Sandpoint had changed too much by 1986 to suit the film's needs and instead the town of Nelson, British Columbia was chosen.

During the Great Depression, a young tomboy runs away from her Chicago guardian to join her father, who is working in a Pacific Northwest lumber camp. Riding the rails west, she teams up with tough, young hobos and a protective wolf. Location filming near the Crowsnest Pass and at Fort Steele Historic Park for the steam engine scenes, as well as the lower mainland region of British Columbia.

History / Biographical: "To Touch the Wind" [officially titled "Kelly" and also known as "Like Father, Like Daughter"], 1981, directed by Chistopher Chapman and starring Robert Logan, George Clutesi, Elaine Nalee, and Twyla-Dawn Vokins. A young girl escapes a broken home and school problems by travelling to the Alaska wilderness to live with her father. Location filming mostly around the Canmore area (Spray Lakes Reservoir) and Seebe, with a brief scene filmed in Field, Yoho National Park.
