History / Biographical
Ethel Unwin, 1907-1970, was a business woman, guide and outfitter at Banff, Alberta and Glacier, B.C. Unwin worked at Glacier House and Banff in the gift shop and accommodation business. She was the first woman granted a trail guide's license and guided parties briefly during the First World War, maintaining an outfit owned by her brother, Sid Unwin. Between 1922 and 1947 she owned the Odd Craft Shop in Banff.

Fonds consists of photographs pertaining to Ethel Unwin, trips, Banff people and places, ca.1907-ca.1910; and letter, 1970 June 18, to Maryalice Stewart that describes Unwin's arrival in Banff in 1907, employment at Sid Baker's gift shop at Glacier House, business career and life in Banff. The letter is from Ethel Unwin of Simouth, Devon, England and includes explanatory note dated June 19, 1970.
