- David Mowbray Soole (1885-1959) was postmaster at Bankhead until 1913 when he moved to Banff to establish a real estate and insurance business. He sold the business in 1919 and bought the Homestead Hotel in Banff which he operated until 1945. Eric and his wife, Violet, had two children: a daughter, Ivy (Bond), and a son, Eric A. Soole. Eric Astley Soole (1918-2012) grew up in Banff and Calgary. He married Sylvia (Maberley) Soole (1924-2016) in 1942 or 1943. Eric served in the Royal Canadian Air Force

- History / Biographical
- William "Bill" Royle (1905-1980) moved to Banff from Lethbridge in 1952 with his mother (Mary Elizabeth) and two young sons (Bernard and Walter), following the death of his wife. William started the business Banff Plumbing and Heating Ltd., which he operated until his death. William and his brother, John J. Royle, were also involved with a laundromat business in Banff. From its inception in 1953, William also worked as director and president of the Banff Park Savings and Credit Union (now Bow Valley Credit Union). In his spare time, William volunteered with the Banff Boy Scouts, as well as St. Mary's Church in Banff, the Seniors' Society and the Alberta Council of the Aging. William's son, Bernard, tragically passed away in a plane crash in 1969 while searching for new heliskiing routes in British Columbia with his friend, John Gow, who survived.

Topics include: Rocky cove, resting for lunch an hour before reaching the "Fraser - Baldwin Cache" ; See description preceeding negative ; "Baldwin Fraser Cache" an old survey base camp of 1913 used in conjunction of the trip up the Baldwin on the attack of the shoulder of St. Elias that year and base camp for operations up the Logan Glacier by Dennis Mussell and others. Much old material strewn about. The last timber. Camp left on the morning of the 22nd, of May ; "B. & F Cache" ; "B & F Cache" ; Party starting out to the clear ice straight out in front May 21 to mark trail and to help matters on the morrow when camp is struck ; Striking Camp May 22 ; Sledding on the Logan glacier from the crossing of the boundary line on the Logan Glacier to Turn Camp at the junction of the Ogilvie and Logan Glaciers. Mt. Hall [extreme] right. centre L to R Carpe, MacCarthy Foster ; These pictures taken towards the south over a sea of clouds obscuring the Seward and Malaspina glaciers and all the surrounding peaks leaving the top of St. Elias alone sticking up. The peak of King Mt. not more than 5 miles distant all showing, the sea of clouds showing beyond. Note the South butress of King and long ridge leading from teh peak to the right being the south wall of the King Glacier. King Col, is just below the ridge facing the picture and decending from the summit in a jagged arete ; This the only photograph I have of "Windy Camp" (16800) taken looking northward up the ice slopes followed on the ascent. Left the S.W. spur of the Logan massif ; Plateau Camp at an elevation of 17500 ft approximately, is the camp from which Mt. Logan was climbed on the 23 of June. These pictures were taken on a clear morning and it is hard to explain the failure in the results obtained. The panorama shows the upper glacier plateau below the high summits of the massif. The photograph sweeps the northern horizon through about a half circle. Distant rangers shown are those of the walsh Glacier and west end of the glacier and mountain system between the base of Logan and Kluane Lake, 60 miles eastward.

Topics include: Plateua Camp the last camp on the massif of Logan, from which the climb was made, taken from the east side ; Foster dressing frozen fingers after the past weeks ordeal on the summit and the fight to get off the mountain in store. Read ; Standing group in parkas ; After an all night's travel on the Logan Glacier July 2-3 resting out on one of the central morains near the International Boundary Crossing of the Logan Glacier. Here the ice became so bad that the two sleds were left behind, cached a further amount of equipment, including stove and robe etc. & shouldered our loads for the remaining 30 miles into Hubricks Camp ; Portraits of all but Carpe, how he came to be missed unknown. Taken the day after we got into Hubricks before the grand shave & clean up. 1 MacCarthy 2 Foster 1 Andy Taylor 3 H.F.L 1 Read 1 H.M. Laing ; The making of two boats on arrival at Hubrick's camp on the 6th of July having originally been decided upon, now abandoned on acount of the condition of the party and the length of time to build (10 days) rafts in lieu of the boats finally decided upon. Two of these commenced July 8 and completed the 10th. and the journey started down the Chitina River at 1.30 P.M. July 11th. with desastrous results to one (MacCarthur, Foster, Carpe) and reaching Rush Pond with the other (Taylor, Lambart, Read) 12.30 midnight July 12, 60 miles by stream.

Topics include: Breakfast being prepaired by Andy Taylor in front of the tent at Rush Pond and before starting out on that hectic 32 mile trudge into McCarthy, being the closing act of the field activities of the Mt. Logan Expedition. Rush Pond left with all gear left behind (protem) on July 12 at 10.10 A.M. arriving McCarthy 1.30 A.M. July 13 ; The first negative of close up in camp by H.F.L. other by Taylor of first relays to the top of the Quartz Ridge, 1000 feet above the Cascade camp site ; The process by which, with a 700 foot alpine line we were able to get one of the hand sleds to the summit of the quartz ridge from the Cascades camp below ; Cache and group at the top of the quartz ridge. This point being about 1000 feet above Cascades ; This is a photograph looking straight down the Ogilvie glacier from a point 1000 feet above its head. Its confluence with the Logan is distinctly seen ; A mere spot in a world of ice, cascades camp as viewed from above from the summit of the Quartz Ridge. This photograph shows well the base of the cascades and the character of the glaciers entering the head of the Ogilvie Gl. ; From a rock ridge where Morgan hand enticed me one afternoon we got this of the top of St. Elias appearing through the clouds. Below the surface of the King Glacier, end of the south wall of King Trench on left ; Large scale map of coast showing Cordova, McCarthy and Logan ; H.F.L. Topics include: Going into our first camp on the bars of the Chitina River being a half days run from "Rush Pound," where we stopped and had lunch on the way in ; Packing up at Brysons, being the old camp ground of the Surveys (Barny Bryson) and from which point a trail leads out of the valley of the Chitina (rising 3000 ft) and leading to the head of the Young Creek. MacCarthy took this trail coming in coming out last summer after the reconnaissance. This is the 4th. camp out from McCarthy the next 16 miles to Short River ; Short river Camp, 5th camp out from McCarthy and only 7 miles out from Hubricks. Mountain in back on other side of Chitina Valley. Crossed Clear Water, Canon and Short river before reaching this camp ; Eastward up the valley of the Chitina Valley Tree islands and the morain covered toe of the Chitina Glacier showing. Hubricks Camp near point shown on left, just showing ; The Chitina Valley below Hubrick's Camp distant horizon being the toe of the Chitina Glacier. Mt. Logan would be, if visible, direct centre looking up Chitina Gl. ; Panorama taken from a point on the Chitina just off the N.W. corner of the Chitina Glacier toe, at an old Trig Sta. which seemed to be part of old base line. Shows the range on the south side of the Chitina Valley and the last straight down the valley of the Chitina ; All a little blurred as focus in error set at 15 yrd. - History / Biographical
- The Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies is a trail riding organization based in Calgary, Alberta. The organization was established in 1923 with the support of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The first ride was held in 1924, and annual summer trail rides and pow-wows attracted fifteen hundred members by 1929. Many notable residents of the Bow Valley, including members of the Brewster and Moore families, Catherine Robb and Peter Whyte, and Carl Rungius have participated in trail rides. Support from the Canadian Pacific Railway ended in 1961. As of 2020, the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies remains an active organization. - History / Biographical
- Aileen Harmon (1912 - 2015), daughter of Byron Harmon, worked as a government naturalist at Banff, Alberta, Canada and was involved in local natural history groups and activities. Aileen was a founding member, alongside Bruce Gordon, of the Bow Valley Naturalists, and was also on the Board of The Canadian Wildlife Federation and The Society of Alberta Naturalists. Aileen moved to Mill Bay on Vancouver Island, B.C. in 1981 following the end of a lengthy career with Parks Canada. During her retirement years, Aileen travelled extensively, reaching all seven continents. She also authored an autobiographical book, titled "Tales of My Mountain Life", in 2004. Aileen passed away on January 9, 2015 at the age of 102.

- The Wardle family was comprised of husband and wife, James Morey Wardle (June 26,1888 - May 18,1971) and Maud Leette (Roney) Wardle (May 24,1889 - December 1,1969), and their one child, Dorothy Hope Wardle (May 23,1919 - July 20,2003). James Wardle, born in Chiliwack, British Columbia, was a civil engineer and public servant. He was the Superintendent of Banff National Park from 1918-1921, Chief Engineer for Parks Canada from 1921-1935, and Deputy Minister of the Interior from 1935-1936. He is primarily known as a highway design engineer, particularly for building the Banff-Windermere, Banff-Lake Louise, and Banff-Jasper highways. He was a councillor for the Municipality of Rockcliffe Park in Ontario and he was the President of the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies in Banff from 1925-1929. Mount Wardle in Vermillion was named after him in 1921. James married Leette on November 4, 1913, with whom he had one child, Dorothy. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Dorothy (also known as Dot and Dorie) grew up in Banff, Alberta and Ottawa, Ontario, due to her father's position with the federal government. She was educated at the Mountain School in Banff and at the Elmwood School in Ottawa. All three family members were graduates of Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. James graduated in 1912 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Leette graduated with a Bachelor's degree, and in 1942, Dorothy also earned a Bachelor's degree. Dorothy was prominent in student life and active in athletics. In 1941, Dorothy became the first woman elected as President of the Alma Mater Society and during her academic career, Dorothy was a member of the Levana Intercollegiate Debative, University Centenary Committee, and Queen’s War Aid Commission. Dorothy spent her career as a freelance writer however, upon graduation she served as the first Secretary-In-Charge of Records at Carleton College (now Carleton University) from 1942-1944 in Ottawa and in the mid-1950s worked as a secretary for the Glenbow Foundation in Calgary. Dorothy pursued a lifelong interest in traveling, art, and antiques. Although she was fiercely proud and protective of Banff and the Park, and remained a volunteer and patron of the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, Dorothy eventually settled in Sidney, British Columbia and shared an apartment with Sheila Iris Ritchie, with whom Dorothy travelled extensively. After her death in 2003, Dorothy, "Dorie," was laid to rest alongside her parents in the Old Banff Cemetery.

Series III: Queen's University, 7.5 cm, 1911-1980 (including graduation certificates for each family member and records pertaining to Dorothy's participation on the Alma Mater Society). Series IV: Travel, 44.5 cm, ca.1950-1988 (includes hand-written notebooks meticulously detailing their travels).
- V75 consists of two series, 79.5 cm, ca. 1912-2001. Series I: Wardle Family, ca. 1912-1971, 6 albums, 31 cm of photograph prints and negatives (including family trips, trail rides in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, and family gatherings). - Nicholas Everard Morant, 1910-1999, was a professional photographer based at Banff, Alberta, Canada. He was a Canadian commercial photographer of international repute and Canada's premier railway photographer of the 20th century.
- Morant was born at Kamloops, British Columbia, the son of Francis and Mollie Morant. After attending the University School at Victoria, Morant served as Special Photographer to the CPR from 1929 to 1935 and again from 1944 to 1981. From 1935 to 1939, he was a cameraman for the Winnipeg Free Press, and from 1940 to 1944 worked with the Wartime Information Branch of the federal government (later to be known as the National Film Board Stills Division).
- Morant had a prolific career as a freelance commercial, portrait, magazine, landscape and documentary photographer. His work appeared in numerous books and magazines, including Time, Life, Liberty, Saturday Evening Post, (Toronto) Star Weekly, Northern Sportsman, Reader's Digest, Country Guide, The Standard, National Home Monthly, Canadian Photography, Outdoor Canada, National Geographic, the Globe & Mail, Winnipeg Tribune, New York Daily News, and the two Canadian Pacific Railway magazines, The Spanner and Rail News.
- Two wartime images were featured on postage stamps, while three landscape views appeared on Canadian $10, $50 and $100 bills. His images were also used for corporate annual reports, postcards, brochures, calendars and advertisements. From the 1950s to 1980s Morant gave public slide shows of his work, two of the most popular being "A Talk Without Words" and "The World At Your Feet".
- Morant married Ivy May "Willie" Young in 1936 when he was a photographer with the Winnipeg Free Press. Beginning in 1929, and until the end of her life, Morant's travelling and working companion was his wife, "Willie," 1910-1986.

- Malcolm Daniel Geddes, 1866-1927, was a journalist, publisher and mountaineer at Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Geddes was one of the founders of the "Farmers and Ranch Review" in 1904, and served as vice-president and editor until his death. He joined the Alpine Club of Canada in 1917, was active in ACC summer camps and served as Honorary Secretary from 1924 to 1926. Geddes was killed in a mountaineering accident on Mount Lefroy in 1927.

- Grace Charlton (née Wheatley) was born 1912 in Bankhead, Alberta to Alice and Frank Wheatley. The family moved to Banff in the early 1920s when the Bankhead mine closed. Following graduation from school in Banff, Grace attended Henderson Business School in Calgary completing secretarial courses. She returned to Banff to work for J.D. Hansen.
- Elmer Charlton was born in Spokane, Washington, U.S.A. in 1911. Elmer completed his schooling in Calgary when his family moved there from Spokane. Elmer worked for his brother Malcolm before moving to Banff in the 1930s to work for his brother in-law George Brewster, who owned Brewster Skyline Tours. Elmer worked for George Brewster driving the daily bus from Banff to Calgary. On his return trips from Calgary, Elmer delivered the Calgary Herald newspaper to homes and businesses along the way. Elmer met Grace while he was working for Brewster and they married in 1935. Grace and Elmer had two children, Ken (b.1939) and Gary (b.1942).
- Growing up in Banff, Grace was an active skier and she and Elmer became involved with the Ski Runners of the Canadian Rockies and helped build the first lodge and rope tow. Both Grace and Elmer held executive positions with the Ski Runners of the Canadian Rockies and Elmer was a judge at the ski-jump event for the North American Ski championships, 1948-1950. Grace and Elmer were also active golfers. Grace served on the ladies' executive of the Banff Springs Golf Club and won many club tournaments. Elmer was also an active member of the Banff Springs Golf Club, holding executive positions with the men's club at various times. Elmer was a member of the Banff Curling Club and both he and Grace were involved with the Banff Winter Carnival in the early years. Elmer worked on the construction of the Highway between the park gates and Banff and also found work on the sets of a number of movies filmed in Banff. Elmer worked on the soundstages, appeared as an extra and was a driver for the casts of the films "Lassie Come Home", "North West Stampede", "Saskatchewan", and "River of No Return." In 1949 Elmer and Grace built Charlton's Cedar Court, the first year round motel. It opened with four units and expanded to twenty units before their son Gary took over management of the motel in 1969. Grace and Elmer became members of the Banff Chamber of Commerce and Elmer served as president. Elmer was a life member of the Banff Kinsmen Club and Banff Rotary Club. Grace was a life member of the IODE and the Eastern Star Lodge. Grace died in 1998 and Elmer in 2000.

- Slides were stored in rectangular wood box with leather handle on top, and metal handle at one end. White label that says “Lyon & Turnbull 432 04 February 2009” on lid of the box. Old, peeling, and stained label on top under handle, illegible. Faded, peeling labels on front, some words legible: “from the Canadian Pacific…” 2 stained and water damaged labels detached from box appear to be English shipping labels.“10” stamped in black on both ends of box. Stamped in black on rear of box: “Canadian Pacific Rly Co. 62 to 65 Charing Cross, London, S.W. 1. “3” engraved on upper rim of box. Box is divided into 3 sections with removable wood separators, small pieces of felt line 2 sections of the box.

Slides are a mix of colour and black & white photographs; some images are printed directly onto one pane of glass while others are transparencies on celullose film mounted between 2 glass panes. There is no order to the different mediums. Slides were accompanied with 7 typed text papers listing the slide numbers and details of the images. See Notes for list.
