In the middleground is a lake shown by a strip of light turquoise (wider on the left-hand side than on the right). Beyond the lake can be seen the lower slopes of surrounding mountains. The far shore has a thin band of tan which indicates a sandy bank. A dark forest lies on the edge of the bank. Behind the forest are slopes of tan, green-grey and violet-grey; just to the left of centre, is an area of green-grey rock with thin strokes of blue-grey which describe a waterfall.

- Description
- A view of mountains partially hidden by clouds. The upper half of the composition contains grey clouds (some are blue-grey and brown-grey). In the upper left and upper right are areas of lighter clouds, coloured pale yellow. The underpainting, a slightly duller yellow than the clouds shows through the thin brushstrokes of the sketch (particularly at the edges of the sketch). The lower half of the composition contains a narrow foreground of green grass and three small trees - the tallest tree is isolated on the left side. Beyond, part of a lake is visible; its lower half made up of horizontal strokes of turquoise and the upper half blending into the lower slopes of mountains. The mountains are a mixture of dark greens, blues and browns. The upper mountain slopes are blended roughly into the clouds above.
