- Christina Evelyn Bateman (Henry), 1894-1991, was a resident of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Assistant Registrar at the University of Saskatchewan until her marriage in 1925 to Prof. John V. Bateman. She attended the 1923 Alpine Club of Canada camp and graduated on a climb on Odaray Mountain.

- Fonds consists of album in two sections. First part documents the 1923 ACC camp in Larch Valley and subsidiary camp at Lake O'Hara, including Christina Henry's climbs, camp environs, ACC members and also the ACC clubhouse and guests at Banff. Henry's companions were Nan MacKay, Librarian at the U. of S., and Edith MacKay, a Saskatoon teacher. The second part of the album documents Henry's trip to Britain and Switzerland, ca.1923. - Edwin W. Mills, 1899-1979 was a resident of Hamilton, Ontario. He attended Ridley College and the Royal Military College, serving overseas from 1917 to 1919 in the Royal Flying Corps and the RAF. Mills was an active member of the Alpine Club of Canada from 1935-1953, attending the ACC Assiniboine Camp in 1935 as well as the first camps at the Columbia Icefields and the Bugaboos. Mills frequently hiked at Lake O'Hara, Emerald Lake, and Bow Lake. In 1937, Mills made several ascents on Ellesmere and Baffin Islands with the Canadian Arctic Foundation.

- Robin Cyril (Bob) Hind, 1911-2000, was an electrical engineer and mountaineer at Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Hind was born on a farm in northern Alberta was educated at the University of Alberta, Edmonton. He was a Life Member of ACC, joining in 1933, and attended over 30 ACC camps, often with his family. Hind received the Silver Rope Award in 1935, was recipient of Centennial Medal, and served the ACC in offices of President, Vice-President and Chairman of Hut Committee.
- In 1948, Bob Hind married Margaret (Peggy) Trotter, a fellow mountaineer and skier. Together they had two children. After Peggy Hind was killed in an avalanche in 1955, Hind married Marjory Bugler, and the couple had three more children. Marjory (Marj) Hind was a homemaker and mountaineer.
- During his extensive mountaineering career, Bob Hind climbed most of the significant peaks in Rockies and Selkirks, including some first ascents. He also climbed in Wales and the Alps. Hind was active in the Calgary Tennis Club, the Boy Scout movement and was a member of the American Alpine Club and The Alpine Club, London. Bob Hind worked on electrical projects in Canada and Europe.

- Arthur Oliver Wheeler (1860-1945) DLS, ALS, BCLS, was born in Ireland, arriving in Canada in 1876. Wheeler was a mountaineer, co-founder of the Alpine Club of Canada (1906), and Dominion Land Surveyor. In 1913, Wheeler was appointed Boundary Commissioner and tasked with photo surveying the Alberta / British Columbia interprovincial boundary.

- Fonds consists of 53 diaries pertaining to personal life, travel, office work, and Alpine Club of Canada camps. Diaries range in date from 1885 to 1944. Also included are two volumes/scrapbooks compiled by A.O. Wheeler. Both volumes include numerous articles, newspaper clippings, letters, ACC brochures and notices addressed to ACC members. Volume one covers the period 1902 to 1913; volume two includes materials from 1914 to 1940. A inventory of both volumes, compiled by ACC member Paul Geddes, is also included. Additionally there are 7 volumes of notes corresponding to the photographs A.O. Wheeler took. Photographic material consists of 66 albums which contain approximately 5000 photographs, black and white positive prints from glass negatives, all 12 x 16 cm. The first album is dated 1915, the last 1924. Some of the albums contain a small map printed on linen. Each album contains an index to the photographs taken for the Alberta - British Columbia Interprovincial Boundary photo survey and are organized by Station, Bearing, and Subject.

- Rhoda Rouse (1902-1978) was born in Daysland Alberta (then N.W.T.), the daughter of John James and Eva Olive Williamene (Russell) Rouse. Unmarried and with no children, she was a member of the Class of 1923 in the Arts program at the University of British Columbia. She was a teacher at Maryland School south of Ogden and Pine Creek school near DeWinton, Alberta for several years and thereafter worked for Royalite Oil in Calgary for approximately 20 years. Upon her retirement at Royalite she returned to substitute teaching in the 1960s. She was a lifetime member of the Alpine Club of Canada, joining in 1944 and was active in the club and in the ACC camps. She spent much of her life in the outdoors and was a photography enthusiast. She was a friend of Joe Smith of Silver City.

- John Jaeggi, 1899-1961, came to Canada in 1924 from Switzerland and worked in various capacities for the Alpine Club of Canada. He was an outfitter and hunting guide in British Columbia and bought a farm in the Columbia Valley in 1934. In 1940 Jaeggi built a log tea room on Sulphur Mountain in Banff. He was instrumental in the development of other tourist facilities on Sulphur Mountain, including a gondola lift completed in 1959. Edith Ashton Jaeggi, 1903-1986, was owner of the Upper Hot Springs Hotel and married John Jaeggi in 1949. Together, they renovated the hotel and served as its proprietors.

- The Alpine Club of Canada, the national mountaineering club, was co-founded in 1906 by A. O. Wheeler and Elizabeth Parker, and other like-minded climbers. The club espoused scientific study and exploration, cultivation of art, public education, acquisition of climbing skills, and preservation of natural areas within the mountainous regions of Canada. Through a national executive, local sections and volunteer committees, the club provided climbing camps, clubhouse, huts, and publications, including the Canadian Alpine Journal. ACC expeditions and projects resulted in pioneer exploration, first ascents, and included mountain warfare training during the Second World War. In recent years, the club's membership has increased dramatically with the popularity of climbing and its programs have evolved to serve the needs of unguided climbers using sophisticated technical aids.

- Dr. Jean Knox (McDonald) Petrie, born 1913, was an active member of the Alpine Club of Canada, Edmonton Section during the 1930s and 1940s, attending the Alpine Club of Canada summer camps from 1937-1940, 1942 and 1946 as well as making many weekend climbs in the Jasper area with Captain E. R. Gibson. In 1938 she was one of the four women to make a first ascent of Mount Columbia by women, as well as Mount Forbes in 1940. Married in 1960 to Robert Petrie (died 1966), Dr. Jean Petrie worked in Ottawa, Ontario (1940-1945) in munitions gauge testing for the National Research Council. Following the war, she worked as an astrophysicist for the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory in Victoria, British Columbia (1945-1966) and taught at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia. (1966-1971).

She married Charles Brine in 1928. Margaret Gold Brine climbed in the Canadian Rockies and the Alps with ascents that included Mount Edmonton, Mount Assiniboine, Mount Robson and Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn.

- Frances Kathleen Montgomery, 1904-1989, and Esme Gabrielle (Gaie) Neufville Taylor, 1910-1994, met during their service in the Canadian Women's Army Corps during the Second World War. After the war they shared a house in London and Waterloo, Ontario. Montgomery was a university professor in Romance languages; Taylor worked as a secretary and writer. Montgomery retired in 1971 and the women moved to Victoria, B.C. They were avid photographers, gardeners, readers, climbers and campers. Montgomery and Taylor travelled throughout Ontario and west to Alberta, B.C. and the United States. They attended several Alpine Club of Canada camps between 1959 and 1969

- Elliott Chappel Barnes, 1866-1938, was a rancher, outfitter and trail guide and professional photographer at Kootenay Plains, Banff and Jumping Pound, Alberta. Barnes was born in Rochester, New York in 1866. In the early 1890s he travelled throughout the American Rockies supporting himself as an itinerant photographer. In 1905, Barnes and his family immigrated to Canada and homesteaded on the Kootenay Plains. For a short time, Barnes ran a small outfitting operation out of Banff, mostly dealing with the newly-created Alpine Club of Canada and its members. Also, while wintering in Banff during 1907-1908, he worked briefly with Byron Harmon in the photographic business. Following this association, Barnes upgraded from a small "pocket" Kodak camera to a 5x7 Graflex with a stereo adaptor. Utilizing this camera, he published a set of stereo view-cards and custom postcards. In 1908, Barnes moved to a homestead at Little Jumping Pound Creek in the foothills west of Calgary and abandoned photography as a profession. After several farming ventures near Calgary, the family moved into the city, where Elliott Barnes died in 1938.

- Lawrence (Laurie, Larry) Allison Duncan, 1890-1978, was a photographer, businessman and collector at Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Duncan came to Alberta in 1908 with his parents, Thomas Henry Duncan and Elizabeth Jane (Gill) Duncan, who settled on a ranch at Okotoks. For a time, Laurie Duncan operated a photography business in Calgary, specializing in views of Calgary, Indians, ranching and the Canadian Rockies. He attended Alpine Club of Canada camps in the 1920s, after becoming a member in 1920 with his graduating climb of Mount President, 1919. He was active in professional photography into the 1930s. Duncan was self-taught in mineralogy, painting and photography and was active for over fifty years in the development of mining and petroleum interests in the United States and Canada. Larry Duncan was an avid collector of shells, gems, rocks, fossils and cultural artifacts.

- Erich Pistor was born in 1873 in Graz, Austria. He studied History of Arts and Law and earned a doctor of Law degree in 1898. Pistor worked at the Chamber of Commerce in Graz and attended the 1899 International Congress in Philadelphia and was subsequently called to the Chamber of Commerce in Vienna. He published his first book "Der Exportförderungsdienst des Handelsmuseums in Philadelphia" in 1900. Pistor travelled through Siberia, Japan, Australia and New Zealand on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce in 1901 and 1902 and wrote "Durch Sibirien in die Südsee" in 1903. Pistor organized many exhibitions for the Chamber of Commerce within Europe and in Buenos Aires, Argentina as well as Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Pistor became Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Vice President of the Austrian-British Committee, and President of the Austrian-Greek Society. Pistor spoke twelve languages.
- Erich Pistor met Conrad Kain in 1904 when Pistor hired Kain as a guide. Kain was again hired by Pistor in 1905 as a guide on Pistor's honeymoon trip. In 1908 Conrad Kain moved to Vienna and studied English with Pistor's wife and in 1909, Pistor contacted the CPR and the Alpine Club of Canada to secure summer employment for Kain as a guide with the ACC.
- Pistor's first wife, Sara, was a British citizen with whom he had three children. Two of these children died in WWII in Stalingrad and Sara died in 1930.
- In 1932 Pistor married his second wife and they had a son Gerhart, born 1938. Pistor and his family fled Vienna in 1944 during the bombing of the city and lived in Prein/Rax, then Reichenau. Dr. Erich Pistor died in 1954.

- Fonds consists of papers and photographs regarding Conrad Kain, 1905-1936. Records include a draft manuscript of Conrad Kain's autobiography in two parts (in German) and related correspondence, notes, drafts of articles, published articles and photographs. Also included are transcripts of 142 letters between Amelia Malek and Conrad Kain, 1906-1933; correspondence between Pistor and Conrad Kain, J. Monroe Thorington, Amelia Malek and others.

- History / Biographical
- Dr. Gerald Wright (1917-2007) grew up in Brecon, South Wales, and studied medicine in Wales and London, England, throughout the 1940s. He served in the British Army in the Royal Army Medical Corps from 1942-1946 in North Africa and Italy. In 1951 Wright moved to Lethbridge, Alberta, due to its close proximity to the Canadian Rockies, where he maintained a general practice as a member of the Hunt Clinic. He went on to serve as Chief of Medicine at St. Michael's Hospital and the Lethbridge Municipal Hospital until his retirement in 1988. Shortly after arriving in Canada he became a member of the Alpine Club of Canada and attended many annual camps, often as camp doctor. He also participated in ACC expeditions to Mount St. Elias (1967, unsuccessful), Mount Alberta (1967, successful as part of the Alberta Team), and Mt. Waddington (1969). He also successfully summited Mt. Robson on his third attempt at the mountain. Wright hiked extensively throughout Nepal, Switzerland, South America, and New Zealand in addtion to the Rockies. He was also a member of the Skyline Trail Hikers of the Canadian Rockies and was a founding member of the Castle-Crown Wilderness Coalition, where he served on the Board of Directors, helping to plan and lead many annual hiking trips.

- Parks Canada administers national parks in Canada. The agency has been administered by several government departments and undergone numerous name changes over the years. Most recently it was known as the Canadian Parks Service. Parks Canada is responsible for the administration of mountain parks and, in some cases, townsites within these parks. Until 1990, it administered the town of Banff in Banff National Park. Parks Canada provides a variety of services to visitors and residents pertaining to interpretive and visitor information; trail, resource and wildlife management; fire protection, mountaineering search and rescue and avalanche control; facilities and utilities; townsite services etc.
