History / Biographical
Norman Titherington, 1894-1976, was a fire towerman in Banff National Park. Titherington came to Canada from England in 1919 following ranch work in Idaho and World War I service with the British Army. He visited the Rocky Mountains in 1940 and travelled throughout the backcountry on several extended trips. In 1949, he embarked on the seasonal career of a towerman at the Aylmer Fire Tower, serving until 1965

Photographs consist of: Lantern slides, ca.1912, 140 items, includes commercial and other views; Transparencies, 1942, ca.164 items, 35mm, of Canadian Rockies packtrip, accompanied by identifications, 1 v.; Transparencies, 1961, 17 items, 35mm, mainly views from Aylmer fire lookout tower given by Norman Titherington to his friend E. A. Mansfield, with inscription: In Memory of Aug. 2, 1961, accompanied by identifications (4 p.).
