- Banff National Park Municipal Hospital District No. 71, established 1955, administered hospital taxation at Banff, Alberta, Canada. In 1954, the Sisters of St. Martha, the religious order that operated the Mineral Springs hospital, presented the people of Banff with an ultimatum. Construction of a new hospital would only proceed with the support of the community through the Province of Alberta's "Dollar a Day Plan". A successful plebiscite in 1955 provided the necessary local support for a municipal hospital district and the new Mineral Springs Hospital building opened in 1958. From 1955 until his death in 1959, R. E. W. (Ralph) Edwards was Secretary-Treasurer of the Banff National Park Municipal Hospital District.

- The Banff Recreational Centre at Banff, Alberta, Canada was built during the 1960s following discussions beginning in 1954 and continuing during the late 1950s. By 1958, an organizational committee had the commitment that a civic centre would be funded jointly by the federal government and the community. The centre was to include curling rinks, a skating rink and a public library. Efforts to obtain the 1968 Winter Olympic Games for Banff and area influenced plans and negotiations. With the aid of a provincial grant, the community raised part of the funding. Federal funding took the form of a loan, which the organizers found difficult to pay back. The final recreational centre was built in several stages. The curling rink opened for curling and limited skating in 1962 and construction of a skating rink began in 1968.
- Scope & Content
- Fonds contains correspondence, minutes, plans, reports, legal and financial records of committees and officers involved in planning, building, financing and operation of the Banff Recreational Centre. - Jim Boyce was the son of Joseph Boyce, 1856-1927, and stepson of Wilma "Josephine" Boyce, 1866-1952, of Banff, Alberta. In 1911, Jim joined his father building trails. His guiding and outfitting career began with Jimmy Simpson's outfit as a trail cook. Cox of Chicago, USA.
- In addition to guiding and outfitting, Jim Boyce worked with motion picture companies on location in the Rockies with his dog teams during the 1920s. A number of well-known log buildings are testament to his log-building skills, including Skoki, Mount Temple Lodge and the Lake Louise Ski Lodge. During the 1930s, Boyce managed and expanded Skoki Lodge. He also supervised road construction on the Banff-Jasper Highway and the Alaska Alcan Military Highway for the U. S. She subsequently studied at the University of Toronto, Ontario; worked at the Calgary General Hospital, Alberta, from 1926 to 1940; and during the Second World War, worked as a chemist in Quebec, Canada. After the death of her first husband, Tronson James Draper, 1879-1949, an oilman of Calgary, Alberta, Dorothy became a permanent resident of Banff. - History / Biographical
- Brewster Transport Company is a transportation company based at Banff, Alberta. Formally organized in 1900 as W. & J. Brewster, Guides and Packers, the company expanded in 1904 into commercial development in Banff and acquired the Canadian Pacific Railway livery concession at Banff in 1905. From 1909 until his death in 1947, Jim Brewster guided the company, with Lou Crosby handling finance. Beginning in 1917, Brewster Transport entered the motorized era with touring cars, later replaced with a succession of buses. From 1920 to 1933, Bill Brewster was general manager and during this period the company acquired Royal Hawaiian Transport and the Sunshine Ski development. The company amalgamated its transportation interests with Rocky Mountain Tours in 1957, and in 1965 the company passed out of the Brewster family's hands, being sold to Greyhound Lines of Canada. Brewster Transport continues to operate as Brewster Transportation and Tours, a diversified transportation and accommodation company in the Rocky Mountains.
