- History / Biographical
- Dimitri Georgevitch de Leuchtenberg (1898-1972), Duke of Leuchtenberg was a member of the Franco-Russian Beauharnais house. In 1927 the Marquis Nicholas degli Albizzi invited Dimitri and his wife Catherine (1900-1991) to join him for the summer at the cabin he had subleased from A.O. Wheeler at Mount Assiniboine. Albizzi and Dimitri were cousins. The Duke and Duchess de Leuchtenberg lived in Germany following the Russian Civil War and in 1931 began annual winter trips to Quebec to visit Albizzi and his new winter sports station in Saint-Sauveur-des-Monts in the Laurentians mountains in Quebec. The Duke worked for Albizzi as a ski school instructor. In 1937 he was chosen to be a member of the Canadian Ski School Committee and in 1938 was a founding member of the Ski Instructor's Alliance. In 1939 the Duke de Leuchtenberg bought the Saint-Sauveur station from Albizzi and moved his family permanently to Quebec, Canada.

- File consists of one photograph album, comprising ca. 432 photographs, 10.5 x 16 cm or smaller. Photographs pertain to a trip through Banff to Mount Assiniboine by the Duke Dimitri and Duchess Catherine Leuchtenberg in 1927. Photographs document travel on horseback to the Mount Assiniboine Lodge, hiking up Mount Assiniboine, swimming and boating on Lake Magog, horses, camping, and other leisure activies.

- The album is titled "Kanada 1927" with a photo of Mount Assiniboine on the first page. Not all of the photos in the album are captioned, some are captioned partially or entriely in Russian. - Edith Berenice Dunsworth (nee Stenton) was born in Banff on May 20, 1927. Berenice is the daughter of Joseph Alexander Stenton and Elizabeth Florence Stenton (nee Williams). Berenice had one sister, Marguerite Flora Lineker (nee Stenton). Berenice was married to Dr. Brian Dunsworth (19??-2014). Berenice's grandparents were George and Flora McKenzie and George was likely a son of the Stanford family. Berenice remembers her grandparent's house was next door to the Stanford house. Berenice's other grandparents were Percy and Elizabeth Williams who settled in Bankhead, near Banff, when they arrived from England ca.1910.

- Album consists of 94 pages of b&w photographs; 1 carte des visites and postcard. Photographs feature locations such as Banff, Bankhead, Lake Louise, Marble Canyon, Vermilion Lakes, and other Rocky Mountain areas. The album has some pictures of the Stanford house in Banff as well as family, friends, and events. Of note are photographs of "Peter White" and "The Artists' Cottage Mrs. Drummond." Photographs are mostly annotated and tipped into album pages with photo corners. The inside cover of first page is inscribed: "To Beth from Rose Aug 20/21. Some photographs are missing from some pages and a few loose photographs are tucked in behind others.

- The Lafarge Canada Exshaw Plant Expansion and demolished of town The expansion was announced in 1972 when residents were notified by letter that the cement plant was expanding onto the land then occupied by the town of Exshaw. Plant Manager Tom Pierce visited every family affected by the expansion and explained that the plant had to expand or it would be closed. The demolition began in July of 1973 and was completed in two phases. Forty seven homes were affected by the expansion, ten of which were privately owned. The houses owned by the company were offered to their tenants for one dollar, and the owners of privately owned houses on company land were given a sum equalling half the appraised value of the house. The home owners then moved the houses onto lease land not needed for the plant expansion or onto private lots within the community. Other sites demolished as part of the expansion were the elementary school, the general store, the Protestant church, the Portland Hotel, the curling and skating rinks, and the entirety of Main Street, which was known as Portland Avenue, except for the St. Catholic Church. The Portland Hotel was constructed in 1906 and had been the social hub of the community. It was located at the top of Portland Avenue and served as a community centre, restaurant and dance hall. At that time, the existing plant was also demolished and replaced, and a new 600 foot kiln was installed.
