- Description
- A compass with a round face set into a square aluminum frame. The face is marked with a line every thirty degrees with an arrow at North. The magnetic compass needle is half red (indicates North) and half black to blend in with the face, which is set into a ring calibrated at five degree intervals from zero to three hundred and sixty degrees and is adjustable with another ring to set magnetic North. The square frame has a two inch scale along one side and a 1:50,000 map scale in miles on the opposite with two square loops of aluminum on the other two sides. The back panel of the compass is black plastic with a chart of several map scales converted to inches on a map and distance in feet. A leather thong is tied to one side loop and passes through a hole in the bottom of a crudely sewn square soft leather pouch which slides up and down on the thong. The initials “DJ” are burned into one side of the pouch and the letters “N”, “E”, “S”, and “W” with an arrow pointing North are burned into the other side.
