- J. Monroe "Roy" Thorington, 1894-1989, was an ophthalmologist, mountaineer and mountain historian at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Thorington was a pre-eminent climber and explorer in the Canadian Rockies starting in 1922. He studied the Freshfield and Lyell Glaciers for 22 years and explored and mapped the Purcell Range, British Columbia. Thorington wrote approximately 300 publications on mountaineering, mountain history and the Canadian Rockies. He was active in numerous organizations, particularly the American Alpine Club.

- The Vaux family of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania were photographers, mountaineers and scientists. Mary M. Vaux, 1860-1940, George Vaux Jr., 1863-1927, and William S. Vaux Jr., 1872-1908, were the children of George Vaux (VIII) of Philadelphia. They were all involved in photography in the early 1880s and were members of the Photographic Society of Philadelphia. All three were taking photographs when the family made its first trip west in 1885. The first Vaux family photographs of the Canadian mountain west were made in 1887 during a summer trip along the Canadian Pacific Railway to Glacier House in the Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia in 1887.
- The family made frequent visits to the Selkirk and Rocky Mountains over the next two decades to study the Illecillewaet and other glaciers, photograph, paint and climb. George's and Mary's photographic work centred on the mountain landscape, while William's concentrated upon the movement and physical features of glaciers. Due to the size of their large format cameras, the two brothers took most of the photographs during these trips and Mary was responsible for all of the printing. William Vaux died in 1908 and George did not return to the Canadian mountains after 1911; however, Mary Vaux Walcott returned to the region virtually every summer for over forty years. - The Peter and Catharine Whyte Foundation is a charitable, non-profit organization that operates the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies in Banff, Alberta, Canada. The Wa-Che-Yo-Cha-Pa Foundation, as the foundation was initially named, was founded and endowed by artists Peter and Catharine Whyte in 1958. It supported broad causes as well as acting as an agency for collecting and preserving cultural materials of the Canadian Rockies.
- In 1968, a building designed by Philippe Delesalle and known as the Archives of the Canadian Rockies opened at 111 Bear Street in Banff, providing accommodation for a regional archives, gallery and the Banff Library. After a major renovation and addition in 1993, the foundation now supports three collection and exhibition departments under the name of the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies: Archives and Library, Art Gallery and Heritage Collection.
- Geographic collecting limits of the museum are the mountainous areas of Canada bounded by the 49th Parallel on the south, the Peace River on the north, the Front Ranges of the Rocky Mountains on the east and the Columbia Mountains on the west.

- Six sound and video recordings were made as part of the Fireside Chats at the Whyte program. These oral histories were conducted before a live audience at the historic Crosby home, Abegweit during the years 2012-2014. Interviews with Rob Crosby, Dorothy Carleton, Ralphine Locke, Don Mickle, Bridget Jones, Fran Drummond.

- Liana Van der Bellen was born in Estonia and arrived in Montreal, Quebec, Canada as a displaced person in 1948.
- Van der Bellen worked as a chambermaid at the Banff Springs Hotel in Banff, Alberta, Canada from 1950 to 1951 and visited Mount Assiniboine Lodge and Sunburst Lake camp as a guest or helper during the years 1955-1960, 1963, 1965-1967 and 1969.
- Van der Bellen earned her B.L.S. in 1953 and worked as a cataloguer at McGill University in Montreal. From 1961 to 1973 Van der Bellen was a librarian, lecturer and associate professor at the library school at the Université de Montréal while continuing her studies in rare book librarianship at Columbia University in 1970-1971. In 1973, Van der Bellen was appointed Chief of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Division at the National Library of Canada in Ottawa, Ontario. Van der Bellen retired from the National Library in 1991.

- Stan J. "Windy" Carr, 1890-1983, was a guide and outfitter and dude ranch owner at Lake Louise, Alberta and Tete Jaune Cache, British Columbia, Canada. Carr, an English immigrant, began working for Brewster Transport Co. at Lake Louise in 1910. He worked as a pony-boy around Lake Louise and began leading pack train trips. Rev. Dr. S. Knapp, Worcester, Massachusetts was a client for thirty years. Carr later operated the Half Diamond M ranch near Tete Jaune Cache, B.C.

- Fonds consists of guiding papers, 1913-1938, pertaining mainly to the Half Diamond M Ranch at Tete Jaune Cache; poems, n.d., 1910, 1940; lengthy manuscript by S. Knapp, ca.1920, titled "Camping with Windy: Tales of the Canadian Rockies"; and photographs pertaining to Carr, associates, clients and pack trips, 1910-1914. Knapp manuscript discusses camping trips in the vicinities of Bow Lake, Lake O'Hara, Mount Assiniboine, Lake Louise, Pipestone Valley and Kananaskis Lakes and includes notes by Carr, 1976.

- History / Biographical
- Thomas Henry Lonsdale, 1886-1975, was a clergyman and teacher at Banff, Alberta, Canada. Florence Sanderson (Bennett) Lonsdale, 1894-1972, was a nurse and community worker. Tom Lonsdale emigrated to Canada in 1908 from England. He studied education and received his BA and BD in Alberta. From 1925 to 1958 Lonsdale was minister at Banff's Rundle Memorial United Church. Lonsdale was active in local organizations such as the Rotary Club and Senior Friends and was particularly interested in local theatre, being one of the founders of the Banff Literary and Dramatic Society. During the Second World War, Lonsdale served as chaplain at the prisoner of war camp at Ozada, near Seebe, Alberta. After retiring in 1958, Lonsdale joined the Banff School of Fine Arts, first as a student and later as a sketching instructor.
- Florence Lonsdale nursed in England during the First World War, and also in Yugoslavia and Serbia until 1920. After marriage to Tom Lonsdale in 1922 and coming to Banff in 1925, she was a member and president of the Red Cross Society for forty-three years and was involved with the Banff Literary and Dramatic Society, Girl Guides, Canadian Club and the Women's Missionary Society.

- The Alpine Club of Canada, the national mountaineering club, was co-founded in 1906 by A. O. Wheeler and Elizabeth Parker, and other like-minded climbers. The club espoused scientific study and exploration, cultivation of art, public education, acquisition of climbing skills, and preservation of natural areas within the mountainous regions of Canada. Through a national executive, local sections and volunteer committees, the club provided climbing camps, clubhouse, huts, and publications, including the Canadian Alpine Journal. ACC expeditions and projects resulted in pioneer exploration, first ascents, and included mountain warfare training during the Second World War. In recent years, the club's membership has increased dramatically with the popularity of climbing and its programs have evolved to serve the needs of unguided climbers using sophisticated technical aids.

- Caroline Hinman, 1884-1966, was a trip/tour leader who worked out of Summit, New Jersey, USA. Hinman was first introduced to the Canadian Rockies in 1913, attending several early Alpine Club of Canada camps. For almost every summer following until ca.1960, she conducted pack trips and tours throughout the Rockies, chiefly in the area between Mount Assiniboine, British Columbia, and Jasper, Alberta. During winters, her parties travelled widely in Europe, Asia and Africa. Starting in the 1940s, Hinman offered a wide variety of motor and rail trips through the Rockies, fishing expeditions in British Columbia, as well as camping trips. Hinman's motto, "off the beaten track," became the hallmark of her adventures.
