- A very heavily decorated, brass handled paper knife and scissors which slide inside a heavy brass sheath as a set. (a) paper knife, very slim, long, stiletto like steel blade which is set in a cast brass handle with an organic relief design including a cast face at the top on the front and back of the handle. (b) scissors, slim, straight, pointed blades of steel, with a ridge down the back of each blade. Set into cast brass handles with organic relief design with dragons or fish forming the finger loops. Two sides of handles fit together with a flush, straight edge up the middle, ending in a curlicue finial at the centre top. (c) sheath, very heavy cast brass with plush lined pockets inside to accommodate the scissors and knife one atop the other. Relief design repeats organic curlicues, with heavy casting at end of cherubs entwined in curly leaves. Because of thickness of handles, scissors and knife do not both fit flush when together in sheath. 3 pieces.

[Canada Goose] This is the name of the wild goose that flied far above our heads Fall and Spring, traveling north or south in great flocks shaped like an immense V. At the head is a leader who knows the way well. As it is harder work to lead than to follow, this bird is replaed by another pilot and permitted to rest, ready to come back fresh to relieve the goose there. It is not often they can be seen on the ground, as they are known better from the noisy honking that fills the sky as the flock passes. They are beautiful brids, gray bodies, with black necks and heads decorated with a white chin strap. They are said to grow quite tame, even become pets; but they are cautious, and you will not touch them without starting a fight. They are known to live as long as fifty years, mating early and remaining true to each other for life. Always a favourite, poems have been written about them, and to them. - Four shallow, footed dishes. (a) vermillion throughout with gold and grey flower stems inside bowl and continuing over rim to outside bowl. (b) large grey and gold fish, carp? about to swallow piece of kelp or seaweed. (c) mottled brown over pale vermilion outside bowl. Inside bowl grey and gold chrysanthemum branch. Laquer applied thickly and is flaking and curling off, fair condition only. (d) pale vermillion ground throughout, inside bowl heavily decorated in grey, gold, green and deep vermillion plant design, possibly a pepper tree. Exterior bowl has one only pepper ? branch on it.
