- Description
- Maroon leather case with green satin velvet lining holds combination altimeter barometer of pocket watch like design. Brass casing and suspension loop. Casing rim ridged for gripping and rotation of altitude dial, inner dial, under crystal, is fixed and indicates barometric pressure in inches of mercury. Instrument is an aneroid barometer and needle varies with changes in atmospheric pressure, whether by change of altitude or change of weather. On dial face are following marks "rain change fair...compensated. Harrison & Co. Montreal, Made in England". On back of instrument casing is screw adjustment to correct for local conditions. Barometric pressure range is 17 to 31, altitude 0 to 16,000 feet.

A 4.5 cm strip of fabric runs up centre and is stitched at intervals to form loops to hold toilet items, wide flap at each side folds in when rolled. Contains: (a) shaving brush (10.5 h. x 3.4 diam) v long, soft, black and white bristles with black and marbled green plastic handle, "MEAKINS" stamped into base. (b) toothbrush (15.5x1.8x1.2) orange plastic handle with black bristles. (c) comb (17.9x4x3.3) long, narrow, black plastic with close teeth one end, wide teeth other end.

(b) needle book, flannel squares of fabric seamed together down centre forming 'pages' which are stuck with needles and safety pins of different sizes. (c) bag of buttons, muslin sack fastened with large safety pin, holds many khaki coloured buttons, metal stud type buttons, metal sew on buttons, a small cube of wax, and metal thimble ring, without bottom . (d,e) 2 skeins thread, waxed linen, black, and khaki coloured. Marks: Stamped inside flap, "S.S. Holden Ltd., 1942, Ottawa, Canada" in circle, stamped on outside is symbol which looks like a brand.
