- A pair of empty boxes, a Royal Dry Plate and Photographic Dry Plates: Hammer Dry Plate Company used to store negatives. a) A Royal Dry Plate box with a label on the lid. Along the edge of the lid is a red border, in a dark brown square white text reads “ROYAL” “COMPLETE DIRECTIONS INSIDE PACKAGE” “FOR SALE BY ALL DEALERS IN PHOTOGRAPHIC GOODS”, an illustration of a take on the Royal Crest is in the middle of the label, and “Dry Plate MANUFACTURED BY CANADIAN KODAK CO. LIMITED TORONTO. CANADA”. One side of the lid has another label that is black with white text. The white text reads “1 DOZEN 4 x 5” “ROYAL PLATE” and “EMULSION NUMBER”. The bottom of the box is lined with tape, along the edges. The inside of the box is golden yellow. The lid is slightly too big for the box. b) A Hammer Dry Plate Company box with a intricate label, and smaller box inside. Along the edges is a red border, in the label is handwriting at the top “MOORE” “5001”, the text of label reads “PHOTOGRAPHIC DRY PLATES”, an illustration of the manufacturing building (?) and small hammer (?), in two small boxes on either side of the illustration, left one reads “KEEP IN DRY PLACE” and right one “OPEN IN DARK ROOM ONLY”, text underneath reads “These plates were made with utmost care; should they be found defective in manufacture, they will be replaced, but no further responsibility is assumed by us, as the plates are sold without warranty of any kind.” “HAMMER DRY PLATE COMPANY” “ST. LOUIS, MO.” On one side of the lid is another white label that reads “PROCESS” “HAMMER PLATES” “Record 3877” “1 DOZEN” “4 x 5”. When you remove the lid, there is a smaller box, simple boxes with black tape along the edges of the box and on the bottom part of the box. The interior of the box are golden yellow. 2.9 x 14.0 x 11.4 cm.

Along the edges of the bottom piece (c) there is a thin slot for the lantern screen to be placed. c) has a circle cut-out with a cylindrical piece sticking up on the inside. On the bottom of this piece are some narrow legs along each side and a square in the middle. b) 1.0 x 11.9 x 11.9 cm. c) 1.9 X 12.1 X 12.2 cm.e) A red lantern screen, that can be folded. The center of the rings is a gap for a roll of 16mm film, which is filled with a loose roll of 16mm film with a metal bar to keep it in place. b) A bright red box with simple labels on two opposite sides of the lid. Along the edge of the lid is a red border, in a beige square with a smaller black square text reads “Eastman’s” “Dry Plates” “MANUFACTURED BY” “EASTMAN KODAK CO.,” “ROCHESTER, N.Y.” “TO BE OPENED ONLY IN PHOTOGRAPHIC DARK ROOM.” There is pencil handwriting along the top of the label which reads “Lila Aunt Lizzie”. Along one of the edges of the lid a sticker/label that is partially torn making it illegible. Inside the lid is another box with a white sticker label that reads “Emulsion No. 5599” “Packer No. 13” “If these plates are found to be defective, the user will confer a favor by returning them direct to the manufacturer in this box, together with a negative, and his name, address, and a statement of the trouble written hereon” “EASTMAN KODAK CO.,” “Rochester, N.Y., U.S.A.” “KODAK, LIMITED” “43 Clerkenwell Road, London.” “Paris.
