- A pair of empty boxes, a Royal Dry Plate and Photographic Dry Plates: Hammer Dry Plate Company used to store negatives. a) A Royal Dry Plate box with a label on the lid. Along the edge of the lid is a red border, in a dark brown square white text reads “ROYAL” “COMPLETE DIRECTIONS INSIDE PACKAGE” “FOR SALE BY ALL DEALERS IN PHOTOGRAPHIC GOODS”, an illustration of a take on the Royal Crest is in the middle of the label, and “Dry Plate MANUFACTURED BY CANADIAN KODAK CO. LIMITED TORONTO. CANADA”. One side of the lid has another label that is black with white text. The white text reads “1 DOZEN 4 x 5” “ROYAL PLATE” and “EMULSION NUMBER”. The bottom of the box is lined with tape, along the edges. The inside of the box is golden yellow. The lid is slightly too big for the box. b) A Hammer Dry Plate Company box with a intricate label, and smaller box inside. Along the edges is a red border, in the label is handwriting at the top “MOORE” “5001”, the text of label reads “PHOTOGRAPHIC DRY PLATES”, an illustration of the manufacturing building (?) and small hammer (?), in two small boxes on either side of the illustration, left one reads “KEEP IN DRY PLACE” and right one “OPEN IN DARK ROOM ONLY”, text underneath reads “These plates were made with utmost care; should they be found defective in manufacture, they will be replaced, but no further responsibility is assumed by us, as the plates are sold without warranty of any kind.” “HAMMER DRY PLATE COMPANY” “ST. LOUIS, MO.” On one side of the lid is another white label that reads “PROCESS” “HAMMER PLATES” “Record 3877” “1 DOZEN” “4 x 5”. When you remove the lid, there is a smaller box, simple boxes with black tape along the edges of the box and on the bottom part of the box. The interior of the box are golden yellow. 2.9 x 14.0 x 11.4 cm.
