Alphabet of capital letters worked at the top in tan colour with cross stitch, with a cross stitched dog filling the space left at the end of the alphabet, then a row of blue cross stitching divides the numerals from 1 through 9 to 0 in light green, ending with the date "1913", then a blue line followed by "Catharine Robb", in pink, "her sampler, aged 7", in light green. Followed by a blue line with a small looped garland of pink flowers hanging from it, and a picture below carefully worked in needlepoint of a basket of flowers at the centre and a tree in pink flowerpot on either side.

- A collection of netting supplies including four shuttles, three netting needles, two awls, eight mesh gauges, and a needle in cork. (a) shuttle (10.7 x .7 x 1.8) wooden, carved from one piece. Sides flat boat shapes joined by solid piece between allowing a lip inside the shuttle to accommodate the thread when wrapped around. On one side carved initials "S.K." Note: surfaces and edges slightly scratched, gouged and nicked. (b) shuttle (8.0 x .9 x 2.2) black ebony, similar to (a) but separate block of wood post between riveted through sides with small brass pins, and points curved toward each other so as to almost touch. Small hole drilled through central post, wrapped with a long length of shiny, twisted silk or mercerized cotton cord. (c) shuttle (6.2 x .6 x 1.5) ivory, shaped as (a) but smaller. Two central posts fastened through each side with steel pins separate sides.(d) shuttle (7.2 x .1 x 1.1) flat, carved ivory with curved notch at end and rounded point at other. Cut out window at top with carved spike to hold thread when wound around spike, then down to notch at bottom and back up around spike. (e) netting needles (13.2 x .1 x .2) two fine, long, stainless steel needles, flattened at each end with a long slit eye which is split at the point, one end has additional small hole drilled through just below eye. (f) netting needle (17.3 x .3 x .8) as (e), but brass and larger, cruder split eyes at ends barely touch at tips. (g) awl (12.7 x .5 x .8) hardwood, smoothly shaped oval stick, tapering about halfway to very sharp, long point. character ? carved into end. Faintly handwritten along one side, "July 28 ? , 1849 ? ". (h) awl (7.1 x 1.0 diam) carved ivory. Knob at top carved with crosshatched notches at end, deeply carved rings and ferrules below, with long teardrop shaped shaft ending in blunt point. (i) mesh stick (11.3 x .3 diam) small ivory rod with blunt points each end. (ii) mesh stick (12.5 x .4 diam) as (i) but barely tapered one end, and large chip broken diagonally from other. (iii) mesh stick (17.0 x .25 diam) as (i) but pointed one end and barely at other. (iiii) mesh stick (11.4 x .3 diam) as (i) pointed one end and flat at other. (j) mesh stick (20.2 x .3 diam) long, flexible, black plastic ? rod, pointed at one end, and flat at other. (jj) mesh stick (16.3 x .5) ebony, as (i) but pointed both ends. (jjj) mesh stick (10.8 x .5) ebony as (jj) but barely rounded one end, and flat at other with small depression drilled in.(k) mesh stick (21.7 x .5) varnished wood, pointed one end, carved barely round at other. - A rectangular ecru linen bag with green and blue embroidered trees and blue handle. Flat bag has on each side three stylized triangular trees made up of small green triangles and sitting in large blue pots which have been worked in cross stitch on coarse linen canvas. Border of small green triangles and blue lines along bottom and top of bag. Twisted blue cotton cord handles are attached through small ivory rings covered with stitching and making a small hole at each side of the bag. Double handles are tied in bows at each side and together at top. Small, hollow, pointed sterling silver cone, awl? is tied through a small hole at the top by a narrower blue cord to one of the handles. Lined with green Japanese silk.

(a) shuttle (24.6 x .7 x 5.1) hand carved, wooden, flat board with pointed end, and deep arch carved in other end, cut out window about half its length at pointed end has long carved spike up the middle nearly the length of the opening. Note: wood split through at point.( b) shuttle (25.7 x .5 x 2.0) as (a) but narrower and finer. Hard twist white cord wound from bottom arch up around spindle and back, then up other side. Note: warped along length. (c) shuttle (19.4 x .5 x 2.9) as (a) but smaller and harder wood with brown speckling. (d) shuttle (17.7 x .7 x 2.7) as (a) but hardwood, maple? and more carefully carved and smoothed. (e) shuttle (17.7 x .7 x 2.5) as (d) but squared at edges. Tightly twisted cord wrapped around as in (b). (f) shuttle (13.9 x .9 x 3.6) carved, flat piece of softwood, rectangular in shape with deep arches cut from each end, very roughly shaped. (g) shuttle (22.8 x .3 x 1.8) as (a) but much more streamlined. Arch at end, and window containing spindle are squared, one side has ink drawing of fishing boat and sailboat on the water and writing, "Mendon, M.M. Brooks, Paris "88" at the tip barely decipherable. "M Brooks ? Paris '88'".( h) mesh gauges (24.0 x 1.3 diam) long, smooth dowel which has been roughly rounded at each end. (hh) mesh gauge (18.0 x 1.1 diam) as (h) but shorter and smoother at ends. (i) mesh stick (20.0 x .1 x 1.3) flat, thin, extremely flexible piece of black metal with rounded ends which have been dipped in a rubber like material. (j,jj) odd sticks (10.4 x .4 x 5.6) 2 flat pieces of ivory with a .6 diam. hole drilled through at each end. (k) another odd stick (10.4 x .2 x 1.4) black plastic? stick as (j) but with two .8 cm holes, one above the other, at the ends. (l) (10.5 x .4 x .5) needle, large, steel, three cornered needle with rectangular eye set into groove at end. Note: rusting. (m) awl (13.8 x 2.5 diam) shaped wooden handle with 3.7 cm needle at end, handle teardrop shaped, nipping in to a waist at the end, then out again, flaring to a flat knob. Scribed around with double lines at each end. Cone shaped brass collar is crimped around sharp steel needle. (n,nn) bobbins (6.5 x .2 x 6.5) two thin wooden boards carved into a square with the sides curving inward slightly. Charred into the top of each is a series of squiggle lines, East-Asian writing? surrounded by a curved rectangle.
